Background: Transient tachypnea (TTN) is a common disorder of the newborn. It is characterized by the
early onset of tachypnea sometimes with retractions or expiratory grunting and occasionally cyanosis that is
relieved by minimal oxygen supplementation (<40%).
Objectives: To identify the risk factors and describe the clinical characteristics, treatment and outcome of
infants with TTN.
Patients and methods: This study was carried out on 100 newborn babies with birth weight of 2500 to 4000
gm and gestational ages range from (completed 37 -42 wks), who were admitted to the neonatal care unit
of Children Welfare Teaching Hospital, Medical city, Baghdad, from 1st of September 2013 to the 31st of
January 2014, and diagnosed as having TTN.
Results: Males represented 68% and females were 32%, with a male to female ratio of 2.1:1. Fifty-three
percent aged 38 weeks, compared to 38% aged < 38 weeks and 9% > 38 weeks, indicating that there
was a significant inverse correlation between the incidence of TTN and the gestational age. There was a
highly significant inverse correlation between the neonate’s weight and the frequency of TTN. Cesarean
section done in 80% compared to 20% delivered with spontaneous vaginal delivery (SVD) and neonates
who were delivered by elective section were more likely to have TTN than those delivered with SVD or
emergency section. The history of maternal diabetes in (17%), a statistically significant association was
found between TTN and the maternal Diabetes Mellitus but not with other maternal diseases. Tachypnea
and chest retraction were the most frequent clinical manifestations, 93% and 72% respectively. Chest X-ray
revealed that 71% had increased pulmonary vascular markings, over aeration in 22%. Out of the 100 cases,
95% were discharged after they improved without complications, 5% complicated with Pneumothorax. No
death in the studied group.
Conclusions: There was a significant association between TTN and maternal diabetes, mode of delivery
especially elective CS, lower gestational age (38 weeks and less), and lower body weight. The most frequent
clinical manifestations of TTN are Tachypnea and chest retraction. Increased pulmonary vascular markings
and over- aeration are the most frequent radiological manifestations. TTN is a self-limited disease in most
of the cases.
Background: Entamoeba histolytica is the causative agent of amoebic dysentery and hepatic abscesses. Despite the efficacy of metronidazole in alleviating infectious diseases, the global dissemination of drug-resistant parasites raises the possibility that Punica granatum could serve as an effective natural alternative treatment. Objective: To evaluate the effect of P. granatum methanolic and aqueous extracts of various parts against E. histolytica trophozoites in an in vitro setting. Methods: Various concentrations (0.14, 0.7, 1.4, and 2.8 mg/ml) of P. granatum extracts of the flowers, leafs, peels, and seeds were chosen for this purpose. A culture medium containing 0.05x106/ml E. histolytica trophozoites was treated with different

The study included three groups. The biochemical parameters which were measured include, fasting blood sugar(FBS), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting insulin, insulin like growth factor-1(IGF-1), lipid profile [Total cholesterol (Tc) , triglyceride(TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c) ,low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c)and very low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-c)], Atherogenic index of plasma(AIP), insulin resistance(IR). The effect of 532nm Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) laser at power density of 5.234 W/cm2 on the growth of Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus was evaluated. These bacteria were isolated from samples taken from burn and infected wound areas of 55 patients admitted to the burn-wound unit in Al-Kindy teaching hospital in Baghdad during the period from October 2012 to March 2013. Each isolate was identified using microscopic, cultural and biochemical methods. A standard bacterial suspension was prepared for each isolate. Serial dilutions were then prepared and a dilution of 10-5 was selected. Irradiation experiments included four groups: (L-P-) bacterial suspension in saline solution, (L-P+) bacteria

PLD with pairing correction can be calculated using four methods, namely, pairing, improved pairing, exact Pauli and back shift energy corrections. The variations in the PLD values of each of the four formulas of strontium (88Sr), Yttrium (89Y) and Zirconium (90Zr) isotones have been examined. Results shows that the PLD values that use pairing and improved pairing corrections do not vary for different isotones. However, a small change in PLD values is observed when exact Pauli correction and back shift energy were utilised. The change in the PLD values using back shift energy correction is bigg

Objective: Is to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of 5mg solifenacin in the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia in combination with an alpha-blocker.
Patients and methods: This is a prospective study of 29 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia already on alpha-blockers, given solifenacin 5mg once daily. International prostate symptom score (IPSS), patient micturitio
Brain Fingerprinting (BF) is one of the modern technologies that rely on artificial intelligence in the field of criminal evidence law. Brain information can be obtained accurately and reliably in criminal procedures without resorting to complex and multiple procedures or questions. It is not embarrassing for a person or even violates his human dignity, as well as gives immediate and accurate results. BF is considered one of the advanced techniques related to neuroscientific evidence that relies heavily on artificial intelligence, through which it is possible to recognize whether the suspect or criminal has information about the crime or not. This is done through Magnetic Resonance Imaging (EEG) of the brain and examining
