Chemical Characterization and Antibacterial Activity of Black Tea Extract Components

Background: Aqueous extracts of black tea exhibited antimicrobial activity against wide range of bacteria.
Aim of study: In this investigation the antimicrobial ly active components of this extract were identified and characterized. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) for each one was determined.
Subject & Methods: the active components of the aqueous extract were identified and characterized. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) for each was determined. Tannic acid, theophylline, caffeine and theobromine were isolated by thin layer chromatograhy (TLC) and purified by silica gel column. MIC was assessed by using agar dilution method.
Results: Broad spectrum activity of three components excluding theobromine against gram- negative and selective gram-positive organisms was observed. Tannic acid showed the greatest potency with MIC of 160 /ig/ml. whereas the MIC of theophylline and caffeine was 2.5 mg/ml and 10 mg/ml respectively.

Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized by Aqueous Extract of Carthamus oxycantha M.Bieb. Against Antibiotics Resistant Bacteria

Antibiotics resistant bacteria have become a global problem as a result of the unprogrammed use of antibiotics, resulting in bacterial strains resistant to many antibiotics, or to all available antibiotics. Plants are a good source of primary and secondary metabolites that have a major role in reducing silver nitrate to silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The production of these nanoparticles were carried out by using aqueous extract of Carthamus oxycantha M.Bieb. This can be verified by color change of the reaction solution from yellow to dark brown because of the excitation of the surface plasmon resonance. Synthesis, Characterization and antibacterial activity of mixed ligands complexes of some metal ions with 2-aminophenol and tributylphosphine

Four metal complexes mixed ligand of 2-aminophenol (2-AP) and tributylphosphine (PBu3) were produced in aqueous ethanol with (1:2:2) (M:2-AP:PBu3). The prepared complexes were identified by using flame atomic absorption, FT.IR and UV-Vis spectroscopic methods as well as magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. In addition antibacterial activity of the two ligands and mixed ligand complexes oboist three species of bacteria were also examined. The ligands and their complexes show good bacterial activities. From the obtained data the octahedral geometry was suggested for all prepared complexes. Keywords: Mixed ligand complexes, spectral studies, 2-aminophenol, tributylphosphine.

Determination of chemical composition of local black seeds Nigella sativa L

Chemical analysis for evaluation of Nigella sativa L. (black cumin) seeds showed a composition of Fat 39% ; Protein 28% ; Carbohydrate 21% ; Moisture 6% and Ash 4.5% . It was found that the black seed contains the following mineral element : Magnesium 0.26 gm /100gm seed ; Calcium 0.25 gm /100gm seed and Iron 25 ?g / gm /100gm seed ; zinc 4.51?g /gm /100gm seed and Copper 3.60 ?g /gm /100gm seed. The analysis also showed that mineral element I. e. ; lead ; Cobalt ; Nickel ; Chrom ; Cadmium and Aresenic are not present . It was found that the fat of the black seed contains the following fatty acids : Myristic 2.8%; Palmtic 16.6%; Stearic 0.8 % ; Oleic 13.79% ; Linoleic 64.2% and Arachidic 1.9% .
