Background: Diagnostic laparoscopy is the standard procedure performed as the final test in the infertility work up before progressing to infertility treatment, but it was found that laparoscopy may increase the risk of pelvic infection which is one of the causes of infertility either in men or women.
Objectives: To assess the cervix microbiologically in patients who were planned to have diagnostic laparoscopy as part of infertility investigations.
Patients and methods: A cross sectional study done at department of obstetrics & gynecology, Baghdad teaching hospital, Medical city, Baghdad, Iraq in 2013, over a period of 7 months, cervical swabs were taken from 30 women complaining of infertility, just before diagnostic laparoscopy was done for them. For these swabs; gram stain, culture for bacteria, PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technique for detection of Chlamydial infection, and direct microscopical examination for Trichomonal infection were done.
Results: We noticed higher percentage of cervical infections in patients who had past history of cervical cauterization, dilatation and curettage and / or hysterosalpingography.
Conclusion: Cervical swab for bacteriology before any uterine instrumentation should be done as a routine investigation.
Background: It is evident that there is a lack of clear consensus on the role of luteal phase serum Progesterone (P) level in the prediction of early pregnancy after controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) protocols in assisted reproductive techniques (ART).
Objective: We conducted this study in order to investigate the potential value of luteal phase serum progesterone measurement, in women undergoing ICSI treatment cycles and receiving progesterone supplements, in relation to pregnancy rate.
Patients: A total of 68 women aged 20-40 years undergoing their first intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles in fertility and I.V.F center of Kamal Al samrai hospital.
Methods: women consecutively treated by ICSI had Estima

Trace elements such as copper and zinc have a role in many biochemical reactions as micro source, their metabolism is profoundly altered in neoplastic diseases especially breast cancer which is ranked as the first of female cancers
Objective: The aim of the present study is to study the impact of body mass index and some trace elements in Iraqi women with breast cancer.
Patients and methods: The group of the study consisted of 25 breast cancer patients; their age range was (25–65) years recruited from the Al-Kadhimia Teaching Hospital and 25 apparently healthy women age matched, over a period of 6 months from January 2015 until June 2015. After the diagnosis wa
A number of juices, jams, canned foods and frozen fishes available in local markets were inspected with respect to microbial contamination. We have determined the total viable bacterial cell counts in these samples and the number of g(-) lactose fermentors as a bacterial indicator of food spoilage. The results indicated that most of the food items inspected, were contaminated with large numbers of different species of g(-) ,g(+), yeast and fungi and some were contained more than the maximum permissible number of pathogenic g(-) enteric E-coli, which render these food items unsafe for human consumption.
The antimicrobial activity of two naphthoquinone semicarbazone derivatives (Two newly synthesized compounds) have been studied by using tube — diluation and disc plate technique. The effect of those derivatives upon pathogenic microorganism iso-lated from specimen(urine iwounds, stool, swabs, throat ....etc) have been studied also in comparison with the antibiotics (amikacin, ampicillin, carbencillin, cephalothin, cefoxitin, clindamycin ,erythromycin, gentamycin, penicillin, tetracylin and tri-methoprim. It was shown that derivative(1) had more effective against micro organ-ism than derivative(11).
Cosmetic products contain variable amounts of nutrients that support microbial growth. Most contaminants in cosmetic products include bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Achromobacter and Alcaligenes. Contaminated water is a likely source of organisms found in cosmetic products. Products such as shampoo, hand and body lotion, facial cleanser, and liquid soaps were analyzed. In this study, out of 60 cosmetic products analyzed, 26.4% were found to be contaminated. Most of the contamination was from bacteria and no fungal contamination was detected. The highest level o

From fatty liver, which often has benign, non-progressive clinical history, to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, a more serious variant of fatty liver that can lead to cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease encompasses broad spectrum of diseases. The gold standard for determining extent of hepatic fibrosis is still liver biopsy; however, number of noninvasive tests have been established to make diagnosis and assess effectiveness of treatment.
