Magnetic resonance imaging in assessment of liver lesions in patients with extrahepatic primary cancer

Background: Liver imaging is commonly undertaken in patients with cancer history because, after lymph nodes, the liver is the most frequently involved organ by metastases
Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of liver MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) in characterization and detection of liver lesion in patients with extrahepatic primary
Methods: this is a cross sectional study of 70 patients with extrahepatic liver primary cancer who had their treatment in oncology teaching hospital underwent routine abdominal ultrasound to detect liver lesion(s) and suspicious cases then referred to MRI which was done in Ghazi Alharri and oncology teaching hospital from the period from 1st of September 2015 to end of November 2016, the patients age range from 31 to 75 years
Results: hemangioma is the most common solitary liver lesion in patients with extrahepatic primary cancer which represent 27% of lesions detected followed by simple cyst which represent 13% of the lesions, in another hand solitary metastasis seen in 7% of solitary lesions while metastasis is the leading cause behind multiple hepatic lesions and represent about 38% of lesions seen ,unlike solitary lesions, hemangioma is a rare cause and seen in 7% of cases
Conclusion: MRI is a required adjuvant tool in evaluation of suspicious liver lesion ,its value was illustrated in characterization and diagnosis of liver lesions depending on their appearance in T1 ,T2 and fat suppression T2 sequences in addition to assess their enhancement pattern after dynamic IV( intravenous) contrast injection.

Immunohistochemical Study of Natural Killer Cells in Patients with Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer is the ninth most common malignancy all over the world. Immune picture is important in predicting clinical outcome with bladder cancer, so the aim of the present study was to investigate the number of killer cells in the tissue of the patients with the malignant and benign bladder cancer before treatment by using an antigen retrieval immunohistochemical method on archived bladder tumors tissue. In our study, the number of the patients tissue with malignant cancer that staining by immunohistochemistry of NK cells (20%) was lower than in benign (80%) (p≤0.01). The results of the present study were indicated that the lower level of the NK cells in the malignant tissues may be leads to impaired anti-tumor immune response tow

Artificial Neural Network Application to Permeability Prediction from Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Log

Reservoir permeability plays a crucial role in characterizing reservoirs and predicting the present and future production of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Data logging is a good tool for assessing the entire oil well section's continuous permeability curve. Nuclear magnetic resonance logging measurements are minimally influenced by lithology and offer significant benefits in interpreting permeability. The Schlumberger-Doll-Research model utilizes nuclear magnetic resonance logging, which accurately estimates permeability values. The approach of this investigation is to apply artificial neural networks and core data to predict permeability in wells without a nuclear magnetic resonance log. The Schlumberger-Doll-Research permeability is use

Evaluation of the Level of Melatonin, Cortisol and IgA in Saliva of Patients with Oral Lichen Planus Lesions

Back ground: Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the mucous membrane of the mouth. Several researchers suggest that oxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis of this disorder. It has been hypothesized that melatonin is powerful anti-oxidants and can easily cross the cell membrane and is considered a free radical scavenger of Hydroxid, Oxygen and Nitrogen dioxide, cortisol as a stress hormone and the immunoglobulin A as first line of defense and protection to the mucous membrane of the mouth are interrelated factors for the emergence of oral lichen planus. Aim of this study was to evaluate the level of melatonin, Cortisol and IgA in saliva of patients with oral lichen planus lesions in comparison with p

Utilizing a Magnetic Abrasive Finishing Technique (MAF) Via Adaptive Nero Fuzzy(ANFIS)

 Abstract

An experimental study was conducted for measuring the quality of surface finishing roughness using magnetic abrasive finishing technique (MAF) on brass plate which is very difficult to be polish by a conventional machining process where the cost is high and much more susceptible to surface damage as compared to other materials. Four operation parameters were studied, the gap between the work piece and the electromagnetic inductor, the current that generate the flux, the rotational Spindale speed and amount of abrasive powder size considering constant linear feed movement between machine head and workpiece. Adaptive Neuro fuzzy inference system  (ANFIS) was implemented for evaluation of a serie

Fully Automated Magnetic Resonance Detection and Segmentation of Brain using Convolutional Neural Network

The brain's magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is tasked with finding the pixels or voxels that establish where the brain is in a medical image The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) can process curved baselines that frequently occur in scanned documents. Next, the lines are separated into characters. In the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) can process curved baselines that frequently occur in scanned documents case of fonts with a fixed MRI width, the gaps are analyzed and split. Otherwise, a limited region above the baseline is analyzed, separated, and classified. The words with the lowest recognition score are split into further characters x until the result improves. If this does not improve the recognition s
