Background: Population studies suggest that 3–8% of asymptomatic adults have thyroid nodules. Nodules have a 5–15% prevalence of malignancy. Fine-needle aspiration cytology is the primary and frequently initial tool for assessing the risk of malignancy in thyroid nodules and selecting patients for thyroid surgery.
Patients and Methods: This prospective study was done during the period from June 2007 to November 2008. The study includes 141 patients with palpable solitary or multiple thyroid nodules. Only patients with normal or low TSH values were referred for ultrasound examination and ultrasound guided FNAC, which were done using fine needles (G 20).
Results: eleven patients (7.8%) have insufficient or non-diagnostic aspirates and were excluded from the study. Of the remaining 130 patients that were included in our study, only 20 patients had thyroid carcinoma (15.3%). Seventy-nine patients (60.7%) had solitary nodule larger than 10 mm in largest dimension and 51 patients (39.3%) had two or more such nodules. The rate of cancer in males with thyroid nodules was higher than in females. The prevalence of thyroid cancer did not differ between patients with a solitary thyroid nodule (12 of 79 patients, 15.1%) and patients with multiple nodules (8 of 51 patients, 15.7%), the deference is statistically insignificant (P = 0.95). A nodule that is one of several nodules had a lower likelihood of being malignant than did a solitary nodule: (8.9% versus 15.1%) (P < 0.001).
Conclusion: Ultrasound guided FNAC is the primary and frequently initial tool for assessing the risk of malignancy in thyroid nodules. The prevalence of thyroid cancer did not differ between patients with a solitary thyroid nodule and those with multiple thyroid nodules. FNAC have limited role incytological diagnosis of follicular carcinomas, unless it is confirmed by histopathological diagnosis.
This article presents a polynomial-based image compression scheme, which consists of using the color model (YUV) to represent color contents and using two-dimensional polynomial coding (first-order) with variable block size according to correlation between neighbor pixels. The residual part of the polynomial for all bands is analyzed into two parts, most important (big) part, and least important (small) parts. Due to the significant subjective importance of the big group; lossless compression (based on Run-Length spatial coding) is used to represent it. Furthermore, a lossy compression system scheme is utilized to approximately represent the small group; it is based on an error-limited adaptive coding system and using the transform codin

using Cohen-Kurath interaction for 1p-shell model space with Modified Surface
Delta Interaction (MSDI) as a residual interaction for higher configuration. The
study of core-polarization effects on the form factors is based on microscopic

The preparation of some new coordination compounds for nikel (II), manganese (II), copper (II), cobalt (II)and mercury (II), with ligand obtained from Benzoinand2-amino pyridine. The ligand[6-(2-hydroxy-1,2-diphenylethylideneamino)pyridin-3-ylium)](L) was made from reactin ethanol with metal salts in (1:1)(metal : ligand)ratio.[MLCl] was the inclusive formula of the complexes where M= Mn(II),Co(II),Ni(II),Cu(II) and Hg(II). Metal analysis by electronic spectra, atomic absorption ,infrared spectra, 1H&13C-NMR(only ligand)spectral studies, magnetic moment and molar conductance measurements used to describe the compounds. The determinations indicated that the ligand coordinates with the metal (II) ion in neutral tridentate manner th

Consequently, face recognition technology and biometric systems have been employed for security purposes in a variety of applications including human-computer interaction, surveillance systems, etc. Building an advanced sophisticated model to tackle impersonation-related crimes is essential. This study proposes classification Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) models, utilizing Viola-Jones, Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Mutual Information (MI), and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) techniques. Compressive strength and drying shrinkage behavior for the mixes of concrete prepared by Ordinary Portland Cement (O.P.C) and Portland limestone cement (IL) were investigated in this research. Water absorbent polymer balls (WAPB) are innovative module in producing building materials due to the internal curing which eliminates autogenous shrinkage, enhances the strength at early age, improve the durability, give higher compressive strength at early age, and reduce the effect of insufficient external curing. Polymer balls (WAPB) had been used in the mixes of thi

The prepared ligand was identified by Microelemental Analysis, 1HNMR, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques. Treatment of the prepared ligand with the following metal ions (CoII, NiII, CuII and ZnII) in aqueous ethanol with a 1:2 M:L ratio and at optimum pH, yielded a series of neutral complexes of the general formula [M(L)2]Cl2 . The prepared complexes were characterized using flame atomic absorption, (C.H.N) Analysis, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopic methods as well as magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. Chloride ion content was also evaluated by (Mohr method). The nature of the complexes formed were studied following the mol

Many elements, such as the physical properties of the structure, the efficiency of the cooling and heating systems, the activity of the occupants, and the building’s sustainability, affect the energy consumption of a building. It is really difficult to predict how much energy a building will need. To improve the building’s sustainability and create sustainable energy sources to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel combustion, estimating the building's energy use is necessary. This paper explains the energy consumed in the lecture building of the Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering, University of Baghdad (UOB), Baghdad, Iraq.
