Assessment of Nurses' Practices Toward Infection Control Standardized Precautions in Azady Teaching Hospital in the City of Kirkuk
...Show More Authors

Objective: The aim of the present study is to assess the practices of nurses towards standard precautions at Azady
Teaching Hospital in the City of Kirkuk.
Methodology: A descriptive study, which uses the assessment approach and it was conducted on nurses from January
18th, 2009 to September 30th, 2009, using non-probability sampling a purposive sample of (37) subject (male and
female nurses) who worked at surgical wards in Azady Teaching Hospital in Kirkuk city was selected. Two study
instruments were utilized for proper data collection [questionnaire and observational checklist]; a questionnaire was
developed for the purpose of the study. It was comprised of two parts which included the nurses' demographic
characteristics and Information related to the setting of the sample (surgical wards). A pilot study was carried out for
the period of January 18th, 2009, to February 2nd, 2009 to determine the observaƟonal checklist reliability through
the use of (Inter–rater). A panel of (19) experts was involved in the determinaƟon of the observaƟonal checklist
content validity. Data were analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical data analysis approach
(frequency, percentage, mean of scores and standard deviation), and inferential data analysis approach (chi-square).
Results: The study findings revealed that the majority (91.9%) of the nurses did not get training sessions regarding
infecƟon control and (83.4%) of them had not parƟcipated conƟnuous learning about infecƟon control. According to
the level of practices towards standard precautions, it has revealed that poor practices of standard precautions by
surgical wards nurses had shown in surgical wards.
Recommendations: The study recommended that special education programs can be designed and presented to the
surgical ward nurses and to all the hospital staff in order to increase their awareness towards infection.

Corrosion risk assessment of the oil flow line in Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors

The risk assessment for three pipelines belonging to the Basra Oil Company (X1, X2, X3), to develop an appropriate risk mitigation plan for each pipeline to address all high risks. Corrosion risks were assessed using a 5 * 5 matrix. Now, the risk assessment for X1 showed that the POF for internal corrosion is 5, which means that its risk is high due to salinity and the presence of CO, H2S and POF for external corrosion is 1 less than the corrosion, while for Flowline X2 the probability of internal corrosion is 4 and external is 4 because there is no Cathodic protection applied due to CO2, H2S and Flowline X3 have 8 leaks due to internal corrosion so the hazard rating was very high 5 and could be due to salinity, CO2, fluid flow rate

Assessment of Pedestrian Walking Speed Through the Religious Occasions in Iraq
...Show More Authors

The design of safe pedestrian facilities usually depends on the assessment of pedestrian characteristics and behavior. In this investigation, pedestrian walking speed through the religious occasion have been monitored at three locations, Al- Kadhimiya (Imam AL-Kadim), Najaf and Karbala (Imam AL-Husain) holy shrines. Video captures of the pedestrian through their walking to the two holy shrines have been prepared and analyzed for walking speed, gender, age groups, and clothing tradition. The pedestrian sample size is 468, 501, and 447 for Al- Kadhimiya, Karbala, and Najaf respectively. When the gender is taken into consideration, it can be noted that the walking speed of male and female pedestrian is (0.97, 1.68, and 1.63

The photo-transferred thermoluminescence phenomenon in case of emergency dose assessment
...Show More Authors
Abstract
A major disadvantage of dose reconstruction by means of thermoluminescence (TL) is the fact that during readout of any TL material exposed to ionizing radiation (i.e., during measuring the glow curve), the radiation-induced signal gets lost. Application of the photo-transferred thermoluminescence phenomenon (PTTL) may offer a solution to this problem. In PTTL, the residual signal that is not destroyed by conventional TL readout (because it comes from deeper electron traps) can be readout through simultaneous stimulation by UV light and heating, allowing to obtain information about the absorbed dose in a second run. The present paper describes the application of PTTL for emergency dose assessment. For
... Show More

Social Studies Teachers' Perceptions of the Importance of Employing Twenty-First Century Skills in Teaching
...Show More Authors

The study aimed to identify the perceptions of social studies teachers in the Governorate of Muscat about the importance of employing the skills of the twenty-first century in teaching. The study employed a qualitative approach. The two researchers used an analytical approach based on the Grounded Theory, the data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with (15) male and female teachers. The results indicated that social studies teachers relate the twenty-first-century skills more to improving students’ achievement level in the subject, while they see that these skills have less influence in developing students’ communication skills and cooperation with their peers. In light of the results of the study, the two researchers r

Effect of infection on semen parameters in a sample of Iraqi infertile males.
...Show More Authors

Background: Several studies were carried out on association of infection with male infertility, which revealed great variations in the prevalence of genital infection in different parts of the world. This work was designed to study the effect of infection on semen parameters in a sample of Iraqi infertile males.
Methods: A sample of 400 infertile male patients attending the High Institute for Embryo Research and Infertility Treatment for laboratory investigations and treatment were selected. This study was carried out during the period Nov. 2002 to April 2003, inclusive. Seminal fluid analysis was performed on samples obtained by masturbation into a glass container after 48 to 72 hours from of abstinence from&

Effect of HPV infection on the expression of fibronectin in a group of Iraqi women with cervical carcinoma
...Show More Authors

: Cervical malignancy positioned as the fourth most prevalent disease among women around the world. HPVs especially HPV16 are the causative agent of cervical cancer, responsible of about 5% of all human cancers worldwide. Some researchers found that the fibronectin is repressed by the papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 E7 oncoprotein in both HPV-positive nontumorigenic and tumorigenic cell lines, while others found that the HPV oncoprotein increase the levels of fibronectin. The aim is to study the effect of HPV infection on Fibronectin expression and their correlation onthe development of Cervicalcancinoma. The current retrospective study enrolled paraffinized blocks of two groups. The research included 30 cervical carcinomatous tissues as well

Detection of Respiratory Syncytial Virus infection in Clinical Samples Using Immunofluorescence Test
...Show More Authors

Current study aimed to investigate the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in nasal
secretion and throat swab samples of hospitalized patients with symptoms of
respiratory tract infection using Immunofluorescence test. Previously these samples
were tested for Respiratory Syncytial Virus infection by reverse transcriptase-PCR
assay. The positive samples were tested by Immunofluorescence assay in monolayer
confluent of Hep 2 cell line. The results showed that the positive samples using the
RT-PCR test were positive in this test. These results reveal that Immunofluorescence
test is sensitive method for detection the infection with RSV.

Antibacterial activity of thuja orientalis and green tea in pseudomonas areogenosa infection
...Show More Authors

Seven isolates were identified as Pseduomonas aeruginosa from clinical samples. Antibiotic sensitivity test were done to determine their sensitivity to number of antibiotics, the results illustrated all that isolates were resistant to most used antibiotics. The ability of Pseduomonas isolates to produce haemolysin, protease and pyocyanin were detected in this study, all isolates had the ability to produce pyocyanin pigment, hemolysis and protease. The antimicrobial activity of the ethanolic extracts of Thuja orientalis and green tea against P.aeruginosa were investigated. The results showed that both these plant extracts have inhibitory effect against Pseduomonas isolates and it was shown that ethanolic extract of green tea was more efficie
