Abstract
Objectives: To assess patients’ knowledge and their adherence to Clopidogrel Therapy Post Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, and to find out the relationship between patients’ knowledge and their adherence to Clopidogrel Therapy Post Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
Methodology: A descriptive design was carried out at Al- Nasiriyah Heart Center in Thi-Qar Governorate for the period between May 19th, 2022 to October 25th, 2022. A non-probability sampling was used among (50) patients after their Percutaneous Coronary Intervention. The study instrument that used to collect data was composed of three parts namely: sociodemographic characteristics such as (age, gender, level of education, occupational status, marital status, monthly income); patient's knowledge regarding clopidogrel therapy post percutaneous coronary intervention which is consisted of (11); and General Medication Adherence Scale which is consisted of (16) questions. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 26. Descriptive and inductive statistics were utilized to summarize the results.
Results: The study indicated that patients had knowledge deficits (82%) and low adherence (84%) to Clopidogrel therapy.
Conclusions : The study showed that there is a lack of patient knowledge and adherence to clopidogrel therapy after percutaneous coronary intervention..
Recommendation: It is recommending to establish educational programs regarding cardiac medications such as Clopidogrel for increase patient's knowledge and improve their adherence after percutaneous coronary intervention.
