Assessment of Nurses’ knowledge about Enteral Feeding at Critical Care Units in Hospitals of Al-Anbar Governorate
...Show More Authors

Objectives of the study: The present study aims to evaluate nurses’ knowledge about enteral feeding in critical care units.

Methodology

A descriptive study design was carried out in the critical care units at Al-Ramadi Teaching Hospital and Al-Fallujah Teaching Hospital of Al-Anbar Governorate for the period 6th of December 2020 to 5th of January 2021. A non-probability (purposive sample) consists of 32 nurses was selected based on the study criteria. The instrument consist of, the reliability of instrument was = 0.87.

The instrument consist of 30 items of knowledge about  enteral feeding, the first part, included the study sample's socio-demographic characteristics of age, gender, level of education, years of experience in nursing field, years of experience in critical care unit, and training course on enteral feeding, second part  is a questionnaire to assess nurses’ knowledge about care provided to patients undergoing enteral feeding.

Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis approaches were used for data analysis.

Results: The findings of the study indicated that most of the nurses had fair level of knowledge about enteral feeding.

Conclusions: The study concluded that most of critical care nurses did not have a good knowledge about enteral feeding and this can lead to inadequacy of calorie intake in critically ill patients.

Recommendations:  The study recommends developing and improving the nurses’ knowledge about the correct method of enteral feeding through education program and participation in training course programs about safe administration of enteral feeding.

Assessment of serum and salivary oxidant and total antioxidant status of patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis in a sample of Basrah city
...Show More Authors

Background: Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) is the most common painful oral mucosal disease, affecting approximately 20% of the population. RAS presents with a wide spectrum of severity ranging from a minor nuisance to complete debility. Many of factors thought to have been involved in its etiology; that might have at the same time a direct or indirect impact upon oxidant/antioxidant system and trigger free radicals production. The aim of this study was to determine the possible association of oxidant/total antioxidant status and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). Subjects, materials and methods: The study consisted of thirty patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis and thirty healthy controls from which saliva and blood samples we

Assessment of uric acid in patients of end-stage renal disease with hypertension and diabetic nephropathy and the risk of cardiovascular diseases
...Show More Authors

The relationship of hyperuricemia to kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension and the risk of cardiovascular diseases remain controversial. The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of uric acid (UA) levels to find the higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with end stage renal disease that have diabetic nephropathy (DN), nephropathy with hypertension (NH) and patients with both diabetic nephropathy with hypertension (DNH). This study deals with 115 patients with end-stage renal disease under hemodialysis sub-grouped into 35 patients with (DN), 40 patients with (NH), and 40 patients with (DNH). Some biochemical parameters were determined in the serum of all participants such as HbA1c, fasting blood glucose (FBG), UA, urea,

Investigating the Effects of Canard Dihedral Angle on the Wing Span Loading in a Forward-Swept Wing Aircraft at Transonic Speeds at Steady State Conditions Using Computational Fluid Dynamics
...Show More Authors

Forward-swept wings were researched and introduced to improve maneuverability, control, and fuel efficiency while reducing drag and they are often used alongside canards, to further enhance their characteristics. In this research, the effects of canard dihedral angles on the wing loading of a forward-swept wing in transonic flow conditions were studied, as the wing loading provides a measure of wing’s efficiency (lift/drag). A generic aircraft model from literatures was selected, simulated, and compared to, using CFD software ANSYS/Fluent where the flow equations were solved to calculate the aerodynamic characteristics. The research was carried at two different Mach numbers, 0.6 and 0.9, for five different canard dihedral angles which tra

CHECKLISTS OF PARASITES OF FISHES OF AL-DIWANIYAH PROVINCE, IRAQ
...Show More Authors

Literature reviews of reports concerning the parasitic fauna of fishes of Al-Diwaniyah province, Iraq till the end of December 2018 showed that a total of 43 parasite species are so far known from 13 valid fish species investigated for parasitic infections. The parasitic fauna included one euglenozoan, two myzozoans, six ciliophorans, three myxozoans, three trematodes, nine monogeneans, four cestodes, six nematodes, three acanthocephalans and six crustaceans. The infection with the trematodes, one monogenean, two cestodes and one nematode occurred with larval stages, while the remaining infections were either with trophozoites or adult parasites. Among the inspected fishes, Carasobarbus luteus was infected wit

Evaluation of flexural strength and degree of conversion of temporary crown materials at different aging periods in artificial saliva
...Show More Authors

Objective: Evaluate the effects of different storage periods on flexural strength (FS) and degree of conversion (DC) of Bis-Acryl composite and Urethane dimethacrylate provisional restorative materials. Material and Methods: A total of 60 specimens were prepared from four temporary crown materials commercially available and assigned to four tested groups (n = 15 for each group): Prevision Temp, B&E CROWN, Primma Art, and Charm Temp groups. The specimens were stored in artificial saliva, and the FS was tested after 24 h, 7 d, and 14 d. A standard three-point bending test was conducted using a universal testing machine. Additionally, the DC was determined using a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) device. The data were analyzed st
