Effect of Obesity and Socioeconomic Status on Adolescents' High School Students' Intelligence Quotient in Baghdad City
...Show More Authors

Objective(s): To determine the effect of obesity and socioeconomic status upon adolescents' high school students' intelligence quotient in Baghdad City. Methodology: A descriptive design is carried throughout the study to determine the effect of obesity and socioeconomic status on adolescents' high schools students' intelligence quotient in Baghdad City for the period of January 7th 2017 to May 29th 2017. A non-probability, purposive sample, of (120) high school students, is selected. The sample is comprised of (12) students from 7th grade, (26) students from 8 th grade, (14) students from 9th grade, (35) students from 10th grade, (13) students from 11th grade, and (20) students from 12th grade. It is consisted of (47) males and (73) females; and age of (11-19) years old. A questionnaire has been constructed throughout the following procedures in order to achieve the aims of the study through review of relevant literatures and consultation from a panel of experts. The questionnaire is comprised of (50) item that measure the high school students' intelligence quotient. The intelligence quotient is measured as poor (50-116.6), fair (116.7- 183.3), and good (183.4-250). A socioeconomic status scale is developed to measure the students' socioeconomic status as high (26-29), moderate (16- 25), and low (5-10). A body max index (BMI) is measured to determine the students' obesity as grade I, grade II and grade III. Content validity of the questionnaire is determined through panel of experts and the internal consistency reliability is determined for the study questionnaire with a split-half technique Cronbach alpha correlation coefficient is computed for such reliability. Findings indicate that the correlation coefficient is (r=0.87) which is considered adequate for the reliability of the questionnaire as measure for the phenomenon underlying the study. Data are collected through the use of the study instrument and the interview technique as means for data collection for the period of February 21st 2017 to March 20th 2017. Data are analyzed through the application of the descriptive data analysis approach which includes frequency, percent and total score. Results: Middle age and Female students experience low level of intelligence quotient more than others. Results of the study reveal that students’ obesity and socioeconomic status affect their scores of intelligence quotient. The study reveals that obesity can dramatically influence students' intelligence quotient. Students with low and moderate socioeconomic status have experienced low scores of intelligence quotient. Recommendations: The study recommends that education program can be designed and implemented to parents of obese students in order to increase their awareness about the effect of obesity on students' intelligence quotient. Special courses can be presented to obese students and those at the risk of obesity by which weight gain is avoided and/or treated. Further research can be conducted on large sample size with different characteristics.

Assessment of serum Interleukin-1β and its correlation with periodontal health status during pregnancy
...Show More Authors

Background: Pregnancy is a stressful state of increased inflammatory activity, and pregnancy – associated hormone changes can influence periodontal tissues, these inflammatory activity lead to production of inflammatory mediators. Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokines that is consistently associated with periodontal diseases. This study was designed to determine the periodontal health status and detect the serum level of IL-1β in the healthy pregnant women at first, second and third trimester and compare it with healthy non pregnant women, and determine its correlation with different clinical periodontal parameters. On the Use of the First-Person Pronoun ‘we’ in Final-Year Master Projects of South Algerian EFL Students
...Show More Authors

Literature on the use of the first-person pronoun in abstracts and conclusion sections of final-year projects is limited. In case of Algerian Master students, it is too scant. The present paper aims at filling this gap through a study concerned with students’ and engagement in their final projects (memoirs). This quantitative study examines the use of “we” and its various types, “our- us-I, my, the researcher” in memoirs chosen at random from the d-space portal of the University of Adrar, southern Algeria. Sixty-five papers, submitted in the fields of Linguistics or didactics between 2015 and 2020 and representing nearly half of the whole memoirs’ depository at the library’s d-space, constituted the corpus of study. The des

Reservoir permeability prediction based artificial intelligence techniques
...Show More Authors

Predicting permeability is a cornerstone of petroleum reservoir engineering, playing a vital role in optimizing hydrocarbon recovery strategies. This paper explores the application of neural networks to predict permeability in oil reservoirs, underscoring their growing importance in addressing traditional prediction challenges. Conventional techniques often struggle with the complexities of subsurface conditions, making innovative approaches essential. Neural networks, with their ability to uncover complicated patterns within large datasets, emerge as a powerful alternative. The Quanti-Elan model was used in this study to combine several well logs for mineral volumes, porosity and water saturation estimation. This model goes be

Effect of Sodium Fluoride on Glycemic Index and Liver Functions in Rats
...Show More Authors

From a health standpoint, fluoride (F) is a vital element for humans. It had harmful effects on numerous organs when consumed in high dosages. Fluoride poisoning has been linked to liver damage. The purpose of this study was to see how sodium fluoride (Naf) affected liver function and the glycemic index in adult male albino rats. Fourteen (14) adult male Wistar albino rats were randomly and evenly divided into two groups and given the following treatments for thirty (30) days: G1 Group (Control group), were given distilled water and fed a balanced diet, G2 rats were administered water that contained 100 ppm Naf. The animals were fasted for 8-12 hours before being anesthetized and blood samples were taken by heart puncture technique

Influence of Glow and Afterglow Times on the Discharge Current of Argon at Low Pressure
...Show More Authors

An experimental investigation of the variation of argon discharge current with a glow and afterglow time intervals of a square discharge voltage was carried out at low pressure (6-11 mbar). The discharge was created between two circular metal electrodes of diameter (7.5 cm), separated horizontally by a distance (10 cm) at the two ends of a Pyrex cylindrical tube. A composite of two Gaussian functions has been suggested to fit and explain the variation graphs clearly. It is shown that the necessary times of glow and afterglow needed to attain a maximum discharge current are (70 us) and (60 us), respectively. The discharge current is observed to drop to the lowest value when the two times are serially longer than (85 us) and (72 u

The Inclusion of Science Process Skills in Yemeni Secondary School Physics Textbooks
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study is to compare and contrast the science process skills (SPS) included in the 10th-12th grade physics textbooks content utilized in Yemeni schools. The study revealed weaknesses and strengths in the textbooks’ content. For instance, a number of science process skills (SPS), such as measuring, predicting and hypothesizing, have been neglected in the 11th grade textbook. For all three textbooks content, the maximum percentage of basic science process skills (BSPS) was devoted to observation. However, the maximum percentage of integrated science process skills (ISPS) was different for each grade: experimenting had the highest percentage for 10th grade, interpreting data for 11th grade, and operational definitions for 12th
