...Show More Authors

Objective(s): The study aims Finding relationship between UTI and demographic variable include: child's age, child's gender, if males are circumcised or not, child's order in his family, father's level of education, mother's level of education, place of residence and family socioeconomic status. Methodology: A descriptive study was conducted on students of primary schools for both sexes, for the period from 19th. February 2014 through to 4th March 2014. A selected sample from two steps the first stage is to choose a school by a stratified- cluster sample, getting schools that have been selected (12) schools as representative for the schools of the Al Nasiriya, from the total (400) schools. The second step of selection of students by the disproportionately-stratified sample chosen from which (120) students from the Al Nasiriya city. Result(s): The results of the study indicate that most of the incidence occur with the age (12-14) years, and most likely with males rather than female. The study showed the presence of a statistically significant relationship between urinary tract infections and (viscourithral reflex; fever; abdominal and pelvic pain; back pain; chronic constipation and nausea & vomiting). The study also demonstrates the presence of a statistically significant relationship between urinary tract infections in the prepubertal children and between (dysuria; hematuria; urinary incontinence and pinworms; irritation of perineal area and wear tight clothes). Recommendation: The study recommends that the Ministry of Health has to apply a wide program or investigate large-scale survey throughout Iraq for the purpose of assessing the spread of urinary tract infections in primary schools. Also, the study recommends a special program to be conducted in conjunction with Ministry of Education to assess, and give children a primary care plan to cease the spread of urinary tract infection among them.

Improving the elimination of methyl orange dye by combining electrocoagulation system with the adsorption process by oven-dried alum sludge: adopting different combined systems
...Show More Authors

Due to their recalcitrant characteristics, Azo dyes such as methyl orange (MO) are extremely poisonous substances, making their removal from textile industry wastewater a major problem. By employing various EC-Adsorption combined system configurations and reusing alum sludge as an adsorbent, the current study seeks to investigate the efficiency of these various systems in removing MO dye. To estimate their benefits and limitations, experiments were carried out utilizing nickel foam (NiF) and aluminum plate (Al plate) as anodes, and stainless-steel mesh (SS mesh) as cathode in the presence of alum sludge as an adsorbent in all systems. The EC-Adsorption combined system with NiF as anode and two SS meshes as cathodes with 10 g/L

The slenderness ratio effect on the response of closed-end pipe piles in liquefied and non-liquefied soil layers under coupled static-seismic loading
...Show More Authors
Abstract
This study presents the findings of a 3D finite element modeling on the performance of a single pile under various slenderness ratios (25, 50, 75, 100). These percentages were assigned to cover the most commonly configuration used in such kind of piles. The effect of the soil condition (dry and saturated) on the pile response was also investigated. The pile was modeled as a linear elastic, the surrounded dry soil layers were simulated by adopting a modified Mohr-Coulomb model, and the saturated soil layers were simulated by the modified UBCSAND model. The soil-pile interaction was represented by interface elements with a reduction factor (R) of 0.6 in the loose sand layer and 0.7 in t
... Show More

Antibiotic resistance has been a growing worldwide public health issue. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that the search for new antibiotics is slow, while antibiotic resistance is growing. WHO has also declared that antibiotic resistance is one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity in the 21st century. Therefore, this review discusses the potential of metal-based drugs as antibacterial agents from the period of the early 2000s to date. The review reveals that a lot of preliminary work has been done to assess these as potential drugs. However, their mode of action is faintly described. Furthermore, a few examples of metal-based drugs assessed for their modes of action are described. These compounds are ide
