Abstract A descriptive study to assess of factors that contributes of lung cancer. The study was carried out in Specialized Surgery teaching hospital, Ibin Al- Beetar hospital and Ibin Al- Nafees hospital for the period From January 2004 to October 2004 .The study aimed to assess the factors that contribute to lung cancer and to identify the relationship between the variables of the study with lung cancer. A purposive (non-probability) sample of (70) patients with lung cancer was selected for the study. An assessment form was employed for the purpose of the study. Test- retest reliability was employed through computation of Pearson correlation coefficient. Content validity of the assessment was determined through a panel of experts. Data were collected through the interview technique. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistical approach (frequency and percentage) and inferential statistical approach (chi –square). The study showed that the majority of the study sample were (60-69) years old and most of them were male (65.7%) .The level of education was primary graduate (32.9%) and most of them were working in governmental officer. The result of the study showed that smoking is the majors’ factors that contribute to lung cancer. The study recommended stopping smoking, established special center to lung cancer in Iraq, regular chest exam to workers in the industry and need specialist nurse in cancer in Iraq.

Carbamazepine is an anticonvulsant agent which acts on the central nervous system and used for the treatment of epilepsy. Carbamazepine was formulated as an oral extended release tablets using ethyl cellulose as retardant substance. Different types of tablets additives such as cellulose materials (sodium carboxymethyl cellulose  and microcrystalline cellulose ), lactose, calcium phosphate and solubilizing agents ( sodium lauryl sulphate and polyethylene glycol 6000) were utilized to study their effect on the release profile of drug from ethyl cellulose matrices. It was found that sodium carboxymethyl cellulose increased the carbamazepine release and the same effect was obtained when the same amount of microcrystalline cellulose used

The Factors Affecting the Absorption of Ozone in Water
...Show More Authors

This study was concerned with using ozone gas in drinking water treatment plant at Ibn-Sina Company. The main purpose of this research is to find the best contactor for ozone unit proposed. An investigation was conducted to study the absorption of ozone by water in two type of absorber. The effects of the process variables (such as height of water column, contact time, and pH) on the amount of ozone absorbed were investigated. Box-Wilson central composite rotatable design is used to design the experimental work for the mentioned variables. It was found that the optimum value of the variables studied was:
i) Height of water column (90 cm)
ii) Contact time (17-18 min)
iii) PH (7 - 7.5)

Factors affecting the dissipation of pharmaceuticals in freshwater sediments
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<label></label><p>Degradation is one of the key processes governing the impact of pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment. Most studies on the degradation of pharmaceuticals have focused on soil and sludge, with fewer exploring persistence in aquatic sediments. We investigated the dissipation of 6 pharmaceuticals from different therapeutic classes in a range of sediment types. Dissipation of each pharmaceutical was found to follow first‐order exponential decay. Half‐lives in the sediments ranged from 9.5 (atenolol) to 78.8 (amitriptyline) d. Under sterile conditions, the persistence of pharmaceuticals was considerably longer. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was performed to </p>
... Show More

Background: The microorganisms can impend the life of health care professional and particularly the dental practitioners. They can be transmitted by different ways like airborne and droplet transmission. The current study was carried out to identify whether the arch wires that received from the manufactures are free from microbial contamination and to determine the bacterial species attached to the arch wires. Materials and Methods: This study involved eighty samples, consisted of two types of arch wires (nitinol and stainless-steel) from four companies (3M, G&H, Jiscop, OrthoTechnology). These wires inserted in a plane tube that contains 10 -ml of (Tris [tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane] and EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) tri
