Study on the Prevalence of Intestinal Parasites Among Children Attending Al-Daura Health Centre-Baghdad

Abstract The present study on the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection from July 2003 to July 2004 ,was conducted among children aged(less than 5 -14 )years attending AL-Daura Health Centre in Baghdad City .(350) specimen were choosen randomly and examined, 160(45.7%) of these were infected , 140 (87.5%) harboured one parasite while 20 (12.5%) harboured more than one parasite.190 (54.3%) were non infected with any of intestinal parasite . It was observed that the most common intestinal protozoa among children is Giardia lamblia, followed by Entamoeba histolytica and Blastocystis hominis with prevalence rate of infection (30.75%) for the last two parasites . Non pathogenic protozoa (E. coli ,I .butschlii,C. mesenili and E.nana)were found with a prevalence rate of (6.25%, 3.12% ,1.87%,1.87%) respectively . This stuy revealed that the prevalence rate of helmenth infection (18.75%)was lower than the protozoa (68.71%) . It was found that children in the age group ( less than 5 ) years are more susceptible to the infection with G. lamblia (17.5%) and B. hominis (9.37%) , while the infection with E. histolytica was within the age group (5 -14) years. Prevalence of infection with helminths increases with age .

The psychological and health implication on drugs’ users

Maximum mouth opening measurement in relation to maximum bite force among children

Objective: This research aimed to study the relation between maximal bite force (MBF) and maximum mouth opening among 12-year-old school children. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 400 children aged 12 years (194 boys and 206 girls) were examined. The MBF for the right and left side, as well as the anterior region, were evaluated for all children. The MMO was measured using an electronic digital caliper. To analyze the data path analysis method was used. Results: Boys showed a higher MMO of 48.797 ± 6.500 than girls (46.710 ± 5.926 mm). Survey study on Cholera Disease in South Baghdad

The study includes collection of data about cholera disease from six health centers from nine locations with 2500km2 and a population of 750000individual. The average of infection for six centers during the 2000-2003 was recorded. There were 3007 cases of diarrhea diagnosed as cholera caused by Vibrio cholerae. The percentage of male infection was 14. 7% while for female were 13. 2%. The percentage of infection for children (less than one year) was 6.1%, it while for the age (1-5 years) was 6.9%and for the ages more than 5 years was 14.5%.The total percentage of the patients stayed in hospital was 7.7%(4.2%for male and 3.4%for female).
