...Show More Authors

Objective(s): To determine the impact of Chemotherapy upon the quality of life for patients with chronic myeloid
leukemia in Baghdad city.

Methodology: A descriptive study design was carried out The study was initiated from 30 January 2011 to October
2011.A purposive (non–probability) sample consisted of (130) patients with a chronic myeloid leukemia ,Who
attended to Baghdad Teaching Hospital and National Center for Research and Treatment of Hematology. The
sample criteria was the patients who were 18 years old and above, excluding the patients who suffered from
psychological problems and other chronic illnesses .A questionnaire was adopted and developed from European
Organization Research and treatment of Cancer Quality of life group (EORTC- QoLG).The questionnaire was
designed and composed of two parts: the first part deals with the sociodemographic clinical characteristics of CML
patients, the second part includes six domains of the quality of life which are symptoms (disease and treatmentrelated)
,psychosocial ,infertility, satisfaction, adherence to therapy ,and body image .The reliability and validity of
questionnaire were determined through a pilot study by correlation coefficient method, while the content validity
of the questionnaire was determined through a panel of experts. The data was collected through the application of
the questionnaire , the self-report ,interview technique and patient sheets. The data was analyzed through the
descriptive data analysis approach, which included frequency, percentage, standard deviation, mean, mean of
score and inferential data approach (T test, ANOVA).
Results: The present results revealed that the majority (33.84%), of the study sample were within the age groups
(31 –40) years. The results showed that the mean score were low QoL with all domains except satisfaction aspect
indicated high QoL. There was a statistically significant association between QoL as a general and sex, marital
status, occupation, crowding index, duration of disease, phase of disease and performance status, while there was
no statistically significant association between QoL as a general and age, socioeconomic status, and educational
level. The revealed no effect of disease and treatment related on quality of life.
Recommendation: The study recommended the establishment of hematology center, bone marrow
transplantation, the provision of genetic test, according to international standards and the second generation of
treatment

THE ROLE OF FUNGAL INFECTIONS IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF DIALYSIS-DEPENDENT AND NON-DIALYSIS-DEPENDENT PATIENTS WITH KIDNEY DISEASE
...Show More Authors

Abstract The results of isolation, morphological and microscopic diagnosis, Chromic Agar, Vitik technology and Bact Alert showed that the diagnosis of fungi isolated from blood samples of end-stage renal patients who did not undergo dialysis and those who underwent dialysis was 60 samples for each type. The total number of fungal isolates isolated from people who did not undergo dialysis was 26 pathogenic fungal isolates, with a percentage frequency of 43.33%. In this study, 4 genera of pathogenic fungi were identified: Candida spp, Rhodotorula spp, Cryptococcus spp. and Aspergillus spp. The number of Candida isolates reached 13 isolates, with a frequency of 50%. The results also showed that the diagnosed species from the genus Rhodotorula

Background: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic autoimmune illness, which is consider by three main features: Sclerotic changes in the skin and internal organs, Vasculopathy of small blood vessels, Particular autoantibodies (1). The most important autoantibodies appeared significantly in SSc patients are anti-topoisomerase I autoantibody (Scl-70), anti-centromere autoantibody (ACA), and anti-RNA polymerase III autoantibody (RNAP3) (2). Anti-centromere antibodies (ACA) are infrequent in rheumatic conditions and in healthy persons but occur commonly in limited systemic sclerosis (CREST syndrome), and rarely appeared in the diffuse form of systemic sclerosis (3). Anti-Ro/SSA and antiLa/SSB, antibodies directed against Ro/La ribonucleoprot

Possible role of Spironolactone in a sample of Iraqi patients with acute central serous chorioretinopathy: Spironolactone in acute csr
...Show More Authors

Background: Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) is an idiopathic condition aggravated by exogenous or endogenous glucocorticoids. Vascular deregulation in the choroid is a new hypothesis regarding central serous chorioretinopathy occurrence. The inhibition of choroidal mineralocorticoid receptors has a great role in shortening the duration of CSCR by inhibiting choroidal vasodilatation and leak.

Objective:  To assess the effect of oral spironolactone on subretinal fluid, central macular thickness and visual acuity in patients with acute CSCR compared to observation.

Subjects and Methods:  a hospital based, randomized clinical trial carried out at outpatient clinic in Ibn-Alhaitham Teaching E

The Impact of Fear and Anti-Predator Behavior on the Dynamics of Stage-Structure Prey–Predator Model With a Harvesting
...Show More Authors

In this paper, an ecological model with stage-structure in prey population, fear, anti-predator and harvesting are suggested. Lotka-Volterra and Holling type II functional responses have been assumed to describe the feeding processes . The local and global stability of steady points of this model are established. Finally, the global dynamics are studied numerically to investigate the influence of the parameters on the solutions of the system, especially the effect of fear and anti-predation.
