Objectives: The study aims at identifying the nurses’ knowledge about peritoneal dialysis complications, to
construct an education program for nurses in peritoneal dialysis units, to determine the effectiveness of the
education program upon the nurses' knowledge about complications of peritoneal dialysis, and to identify the
relationship between the nurses’ knowledge and their demographic characteristics of level of education and
years of experience.
Methodology: A quasi-experimentai study was carried out at the peritoneal dialysis units of Baghdad teaching
hospitals, from April 2004 to April 2006.
٨ purposive sample of (50) nurse was selected from Baghdad teaching hospitals. These nurses working at the
peritoneal dialysis units to provide nursing care for a patient who has undergone peritoneal dialysis.
The data were collected through the use of constructed questionnaire, which comprised of (56) item distributed
in (7)sections.
The reliability of the instrument was determined through test-retest and the validity through a panel study of
experts.
The data were analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical analysis that included (frequency,
mean, mean of scores, standard deviation, and percentage) and the application of inferential statistical analysis
that included (test for independent sample, test for dependent sample pre-test and post-test, pearson
correlation coefficient, Chi-square, and analysis of variance for the difference between pre-test, post-testi, and
post-test2 of the study group).
Results: The results of the study indicated that the education program had a positive impact on the knowledge
of nurses in peritoneal dialysis units regarding peritoneal dialysis complications and significant association was
identified between the nurses' knowledge relation to their education level at the study group (pre-test).
Recommendations: Based on the result of the study, the study recommended that Nurses who are working at
the peritoneal dialysis unit should be encouraged to participate in education program and training session for
their benefit of their practice in such units, in service continuing education program should be presented to
nurse at the peritoneal dialysis unit on a regular base to maintain their level of knowledge.
Otitis media with effusion (OME) is a common disease especially among young children (before school age) and it is one of the common causes of acquired hearing loss in childhood. Pediatric patients with OME are usually undernourished. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the serum levels of trace elements (zinc, copper, magnesium, iron) have a role in the development of OME in children. This study carried out on 55 children and subdivided them into two groups. Group 1 (patient group) consist of 30 children suffering from OME and group 2 (control group) included 25 apparently healthy children. Serum levels of zinc, copper, magnesium and iron were measured for both groups. Comparison the results between the two groups showed t

A total of (20) animal for each species were used in the present study. Animals collected were immediately anesthesia and dissected to get the parathyroid gland. Methods of Humason and Bancroft and Stevens were employed for histological techniques. Different stains were used (Hematoxylin- Eosin stain-(H & E), Periodic Acid Schiff stain-(PAS), Azan stain, and Methyl Blue stain-(MB)) for staining the histological sections. Anti-calcitonin, code140778 marker used for immune-histochemical study. Results of the present stu

Several pieces of literature have identified a correlation between exposure to lead and neurodegenerative disorders. Harwich strain Drosophila melanogaster was exposed to lead acetate for two weeks, and changes in pulse transmission by acetylcholinesterase and systemic redox were evaluated. Besides, molecular docking studies of acetylcholinesterase against Quercetin and its most common derivatives contained in food have been performed. Pharmacokinetic studies on Quercetin and its derivatives have also been performed in silico toxicity. The data obtained showed alterations in antioxi

A general rate multi- component model (GRM) has been utilized to predict the fixed bed breakthrough curves for single and dual- component system. This model considers both external and internal mass transfer resistances as well as axial dispersion with non-liner multi-component isotherm (Langmuir model). The effects of important parameters, such as flow rate, initial concentration and bed height on the behavior of breakthrough curves have been studied. The equilibrium isotherm model parameters such as maximum uptake capacities for lead (II) and chromium (III) were found to be 35.12 and

This study compared the effects of citric acid (CA) derived from microbial fermentation using Aspergillus niger (400 mg kg-1) and natural extraction from Citrus limon (400 mg kg1) in albino mice. Parameters assessed included cytogenetic damage via the micronucleus (MN) assay, immunological response through immunoglobulin (IgA, IgG, IgM) titers, and hepatoprotective activity based on liver enzyme levels (AST, ALT, ALP) and histopathological inves tigation. Mice were divided into six groups (n=10/group) as follows: (1) negative control, (2) carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄ 0.02%), (3) lemon CA, (4) A. niger, (5) CCl₄ + lemon CA, and (6) CCl₄ + A. niger CA. The CCl4 group exhibited a significantly higher MN frequency (0.06 ± 0.008) compa

Inherent fluctuations in the availability of energy from renewables, particularly solar, remain a substantial impediment to their widespread deployment worldwide. Employing phase-change materials (PCMs) as media, saving energy for later consumption, offers a promising solution for overcoming the problem. However, the heat conductivities of most PCMs are limited, which severely limits the energy storage potential of these materials. This study suggests employing circular fins with staggered distribution to achieve improved thermal response rates of PCM in a vertical triple-tube heat exchanger involving two opposite flow streams of the heat-transfer fluid (HTF). Since heat diffusion is not the same at various portions of the PCM unit,

Fifty isolates of Bacillus sp were collected from different soil samples which were already recognized via morphological and biochemical identification process. The isolates were screened for bacteriocin production effective against Staphylococcus spp in order to select the highest producing isolate. The isolate NK16 showed the maximum bacteriocin production (80 AU/ml) which was further characterized as Bacillus subtilis NK 16 through using API identification system (API 20E and API 50CHB). Then, next step was to detect the optimal conditions for maximum
