Determination of Toxoplasmosis Disease Activity by Estimation of IL-6 Cytokine

Toxoplasma gondii (Nicolle and Manceaux ) infects all warm-blooded animals,
including humans. Early diagnosis and determining the infective stage are critical for
treating immunosuppressed individuals and pregnant women with toxoplasmosis.
This parasite modulates pro- and anti-inflammatory responses to regulate parasite
multiplication and host survival. The aim of this study was to investigate the
probability of using IL-6 as a marker of toxoplasmosis disease activity (acute and
chronic) in different groups of women (miscarriage, pregnant and single) and estimate
the relationship between infection and gestational age and history of abortion in
miscarriage and pregnant women. The most abortion were occurred at the first
trimester in chronic infected miscarriage women also, the most abortion were
occurred at the first trimester in acute infected pregnant women. The result showed
that acute infected miscarriage women with previously abortion scored high
significant percentage of infection in comparison to non- abortifacient, chronic
infected one and pregnant women. IL-6 was significantly higher in acute infected
miscarriage women in comparison to single and pregnant acute one but chronic
infected pregnant women characterized by the lowest level of this cytokine in
comparison to all studied groups.

Toxoplasmosis: Serious disease during pregnancy

Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii that leads to abortion or hydrocephalus during pregnancy.One hundered and twenty two aborted women were selected for this study. Serum samples were collected form Al-Kadhmia and Kamal Al-Samari Hospitals,and laboratories around Baghdad, and tested for specific IgG and IgM anti-toxoplasma antibodies to confirm toxoplasmosis in those women by using ELISA test.The result recorded that 51(41.8%) women had antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii, 25(59.5%) women were positive for IgG, and 17(40.5%) women were positive forIgM, while 9(17.6%)women were positive for both.

The role of serum IL-6 changes in evaluation of endometriosis

The level of IL-1?, IL-10 and IL-17A in Alzheimer's disease patients: Comparative study

The objective of this study is to evaluate the level of cytokines IL-1?, IL-10 and IL-17A in the serum of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VD) and down syndrome (DS). The results showed that Serum level of IL-1? was significantly increased in AD patients (3.79 ± 0.26 pg/ml) as compared with DS patients (2.78 ± 0.39 pg/ml) or controls (2.78 ± 0.22 pg/ml), while no significant difference was observed between AD and VD (3.25 ± 0.20 pg/ml) patients or between VD patients, DS patients and controls. The association of IL-3, IL-17A, and IL 27 serum levels with susceptibility to toxoplasmosis in recurrent abortion of Iraqi women

Correlation of interleukin 6 (IL-6) with estrogen and progesterone receptor expression in breast cancer patients

Roles of IL-17A and IL-23 in the Pathogenesis of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease

     Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder,  the etiology and pathogenesis of which have been suggested to be influenced by cytokines. Two main clinical types of IBD are recognized, namely ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). The present study examined serum levels of two cytokines (IL-17A and IL-23) in 60 IBD patients (30 UC and 30 CD) and 30 healthy controls.
