Environmental Assessment of Al-Hammar Marsh Sediments, Southern Iraq

Concentrations and distribution of major, minor, and trace elements were
studied in thirteen sediment samples from Al-Hammar Marsh.
Multivariate statistical techniques such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA)
and Agglomerative Hierarchal Cluster Analysis (AHCA) as well as pollution
analysis such as Enrichment Factor (EF) were used to process the data and identify
the possible sources of elemental constituents in sediment samples. Results of
chemical analysis revealed that Major element mean concentrations were in the
order of Ca> Si> K> Mg> and minor elements were in the order of Al> Fe>S>Cl>
Ti> P>Mn> Sr> N and trace elements were in the order of Cr> Ni> Zr>V>Zn>
Cu>Br> Co>Pb >Mo>As>U> Se> Cd.
Mainly increasing of Salinity in Marsh water and sediments led to increasing of Mg, S, Ca, Br, Cl concentrations in Al-Hammar Marsh Sediments.
Multivariate statistical techniques PCA and AHCA revealed that V, Zn, As, Se,
Mo, Pb, Co, Fe, Ni, and Cu were most probably derived from fertilizers and
petroleum extraction wastes in and near the study site. U (at StR1R) and Sr came from
fertilizers and for U might be from military weapon. Br, Cd, Cl, Ca, S, P and N
indicated anthropogenic source (fertilizers, animal waste, and domestic sewage).
While Mg, Cr, Mn were mainly associated with anthropogenic activities (fertilizers
and animal wastes). On the other hand Al, Si, Ti, K، and Zr were primarily of
natural sourcing from erosion of parent rocks. Enrichment Factor gave compatible
results with PCA and AHCA findings and revealed that Al-Hammar Marsh
sediments were highly contaminated by S, Mg, Cl, Ca, P, Br, Se, Mo, Ni, Co, Cu,
and Sr. and it were minimally contaminated by Zn, V, U, Cr (excluding SR3R), As, Fe,
Mn, and N.

The current study aims to show the importance of plant products as mosquitocides against Culex quinquefasciatus. Castor oil Nanoemulsions were subedit in various ratios including castor oil, ethanol, tween 80, and deionized water by using ultrasonication. Thermodynamic, centrifugation, PH, assay which improved that the formula  of 10 ml  of castor  oil, ethanol  5ml, tween 80 (14 ml) and deionized water 71ml was more stable than other formulas. The stable formula of castor oil nanoemulsion was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Nanoemulsion droplets were spherical in shape and were found to have a Z-average diameter of 87.4nm. A concentration of ca

Assessment of Shatt Al-Arab Water Quality Using CCME/WQI Analysis in Basrah City of South Iraq

The Water Quality Index (WQI) is an important parameter in describing the water resources' suitability for human uses and is one of the most effective methods of describing water quality and indicative of assessing water quality and suitability for human utilization and the health of ecosystems. WQI of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) was used in the study to describe the Shatt al-Arab water quality in Basrah Southern Iraq, and its suitability for drinking use. The data for analyzing river water samples were adopted from five stations along the river every month during the years from 2014 to 2018 by the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, as it included the measurement of acidity function PH, Dissolved Oxyg

Late Pleistocene - Holocene Paleoecology of Southern Mesopotamia, Iraq

The distributions of rivers, back swamps, delta, and ancient marine shore line of Southern Mesopotamia during Late Pleistocene – Holocene have been studied depending on the ostracoda and foraminifera assemblages as ecological indicators to determine the ecofacies and paleosalinities, which diagnose different depositional environments. The data are collected from 86 boreholes (including 12 deep boreholes), covering almost the entire Southern Mesopotamia.
Rates of sedimentation are calculated and corrected for compaction in this study, relative to previously measured C14 dating by some authors, for the marine and non- marine (Ur Flood) deposits.
Those rates of sedimentation found in this study are varies from a borehole to another,

Reservior Characterization of The Hartha Formation, Southern Iraq

Well log analysis of selected sections in southern Iraq revealed that primary porosity is the most effective parameters. Secondary porosity seems to be related mainly to dissolution and dolomatization. The Hartha Formation has good water saturation and low production except in the eastern and central part of the study area. Two reservoir units were recognized in Mj-2 whereas only one in Ga-1.
The values of velocity deviation in most wells show high positive deviation, this may indicate relatively high velocity in regard to porosity where pores are commonly not connected such as in interaparticle or moldic porosity. A positive deviation also may indicate low permeability. Negative deviation zone (Only in Ak-1) may represent caving or i

Environmental Properties of Tigris River at Al- Kut Dam in Wassit Province

The physical and chemical parameters of Tigris River water in AL- Kut City have been studied. Three stations have been chosen. . The sampling of study was made monthly and for six months from September 2014 until February 2015.The result of turbidity values showed height mean in summer 84 NTU, The decrease of turbidity was one of the positive results to the effect of AL-Kut Dam on the Tigris River after the Dam and on the total suspended solids. The electrical conductivity was 1340 µs/cm in winter that may be due to the existence of the polluted elements. The river water was fresh (0.48‰ semiebrachish) with a good aerated water and the height of the dissolved oxygen mean value has been noticed 13.1mg/L at many times. Over satura
