Thermodynamic and kinetic Calculation for the Binding of Nickel (II) with Some Chelating Agents
...Show More Authors

Chelating agents were used in a chelation therapy to detoxify heavy metals and toxins and convert them to an inactive form which was excreted out of the body. Nickel is one of these toxic heavy metal when presented in a high values over its allowable limit. This work studies the complexation of some amino acid (Glycine, Histidine, and Arginine) with nickel (II) ion and compare the result with complexation of EDTA (the synthesized amino acid) used in the chelation therapy. Our experiment were performed in a phosphate buffer of PH (7.2) and in a different temperature (283, 288,293, 298, 303)K . The results show a high tendency for these amino acid to nickel ion with an equilibrium constant in arrange of [KNi(II)-EDTA(17.2×108) > KNi(II)-Gly(29×106) >KNi(II)-His(9×106) > KNi(II)-Arg(4.57×106)] mol-1.L . The thermodynamic parameter indicate a spontaneous interaction (negative free energy change ΔG°)) and was positive for each of the enthalpy (ΔH0) and entropy (ΔS0) values indicate that the nature of the emotion is a strong hydrophobic and electrostatic forces, and a second order interaction kinetics with a rate constant in a range of [(6,8×10-2), (11.9×10-2), (21×10-2), (21.8×10-2)] M-1.min-1each (EDTA, Arginine, Histidine, Glycine) respectively .

Comparison of Three Electrical Resistivity Arrays to Investigate Weak Zones in Soil, Along a Profile Southeast Baghdad City, Iraq
...Show More Authors

The electrical resistivity method is one of the geophysical methods for detecting weak subsurface zone. The 2D resistivity data were used to compare three electrode configurations, Wenner, Dipole-dipole, and Schlumberger, to detect weak subsurface zones along a profile south of Baghdad near the Bismayah pumping station. The results show many zones of low resistivity that may be weak zones. A dipole-dipole array is a large number of measurements and is more sensitive than others. The Wenner-Schlumberger array has a depth also higher than other arrays. Wenner array has higher signal strength than other arrays. Because it is more sensitive to horizontal and vertical structures, the dipole-dipole array is the optimum for mapping sub

Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination in Euphrates River Sediments from Al-Hindiya Barrage to Al-Nasiria City, South Iraq
...Show More Authors

The degree of contamination in the sediments of the Euphrates River (Shatt Al-
Hindiya), for the metals As, Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sc Se, Sr, V and Zn has
been evaluated using the index of geo-accumulation (I-geo), Enrichment factor (EF),
Contamination factor (CF) and pollution load index (PLI), whereat the I-geo has
been widely utilized as a measure of pollution in freshwater sediment. Enrichment
factor (EF) is one widely used as approach to characterize the degree of
anthropogenic pollution to establish enrichment ratios, while the pollution load
index (PLI) represents the number of times by which the heavy metal concentrations
in the sediment exceeds the background concentration, and gives a summative

Dynamic monitoring of saturated stiff clay soil foundation structure by falling weight deflectometer system under impact loads sensors effect
...Show More Authors

Experiments research is done to determine how saturated stiff clayey soil responds to a single impulsive load. Models made of saturated, stiff clay were investigated. To supply the single pulse energy, various falling weights from various heights were tested using the falling weight deflectometer (FWD). Dynamic effects can range from the major failure of a sensitive sensor or system to the apparent destruction of structures. This study examines the response of saturated stiff clay soil to a single impulsive load (vertical displacement at the soil surface below and beside the bearing plates). Such reactions consist of displacements, velocities, and accelerations caused by the impact occurring at the surface depth induced by the impact loads
