The study included selection six species of the fungi related to Pleurotus genus were evaluated for their ability to production of Pleurotin, one of them, Pleurotus ostreatus (P.11) was isolated and identified in the present study. Pleurotin was extracted with screening by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and quantification High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Cytotoxicity of Pleurotin extracted from P. ostreatus (P.11) grown in different sugar sources (galactose, mannitol, sucrose, dextrose and lactose) liquid media was test against three selected cancer cell lines, CaSki, MCF-7 and A549 addition to Human Non Cancer Fibroblast Cell Line (MRC-5). Pleurotin of P. ostreatus (P.11) grown in galactose induced the significant highest growth inhibition against all three cancer cell lines MCF-7 CaSki, and A549 at 72 h treatment period with IC50 29.84 ± 2.37, 30.25 ± 2.40 and 37.60 ± 2.65 μg/ml respectively when the P≤0.01, while it showed no adverse effect on the non-cancer human fibroblast cell line MRC-5 with IC50 >200 μg/ml. Cytotoxicity of Pleurotin was compared with cytotoxicity of the positive controls (chemotherapeutic drugs) including Doxorubicin against CaSki and A549 cell lines and Cisplatin against MCF-7 and MRC-5 cell lines, although IC50 of pleurotin was higher (30.25 ± 2.40 and 37.60 ± 2.65 μg/ml) than Doxorubicin (0.18 ± 0.00 and 1.10 ± 0.02 μg/ml) of CaSki and A549 cell lines, respectively, and also IC50 of Pleurotin was higher (29.84 ± 1.73 and >200 μg/ml) than Cisplatin (8.20 ± 0.25 and 8.88 ± 0.13 μg/ml) of MCF-7 and MRC-5 cell lines, respectively, pleurotin was natural product from an edible fungus while Doxorubicin and Cisplatin were chemical drugs.
In this work 27 events have been chosen for the period from (17 Feb 2000 to 10 Sep 2014) to analyze their intensity profile and find out what is the most effective reason behind the bulk of the accelerated SEPs as seen in the interval from the onset to the maximum intensity. It was found that the parameters of the associated eruptions (CME and solar flare) could play a major role in this acceleration. Show MoreThe current study is a taxonomic account of three gastrotrich species that belong to Chaetonotidae (Phylum Gastrotricha) namely Ichthydium auritum Brunson, 1950 Lepidodermella squamata (Dujardin, 1841) and Chaetonotus anomalus Brunson, 1950. These species are registered as a new record from Iraq and were collected from several locations along the main outfall drain (MOD) in south of Baghdad, from January to December 2020. The species described in this article were found to be related to Hydrilla and Ceratophyllum and prefer environments rich in detritus and decomposing organic matter. The worms preferred water that is salty, hard, alkaline, and had good oxygen content.
A total of 589 fishes, belonging to 23 species were collected from eight different localities

An environmentally begnin second derivative spectrometric approach was developed for the estimation of the dissociation constants pKa(s) of metformin, a common anti-diabetic drug. The ultraviolet spectra of the aqueous solution of metformin were measured at different acidities, then the second derivative of each spectrum was graphed. The overlaid second derivative graphs exhibited two isobestic points at 225.5 nm and 244 nm pointing out to the presence of two dissociation constants for metformin pKa1 and pKa2, respectively. Three hundred Iraqi people participated in demographic and attitudes study about red and white meat consumption. The mean age of the participants was 50 SD ± 11 years (mean 30-72); 51% were females and 49% males, mostly in forties who lived ≥ 5 years in Baghdad. The results showed that 80% of individuals prefer red meat. A 90% of people prefer fresh meat compared to frozen and processed meat. A 60% of people buy meat from popular markets.
