...Show More Authors

Thirty water sample of wells, and three samples of springs from the upper most aquifer, as well as four samples from Lesser Zab River in Koi Sanjaq Basin, Erbil governorate of northern Iraq was collected and physically and chemically were analyzed. Physical analysis includes temperature, hydrogen ion concentration (pH), Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), and Turbidity, whereas the geochemical analysis included concentration determines of the major, minor and trace elements. Chemical classification of the present samples using of chadha diagram explain that ( 95% ) of them located within field 5 and 6 whereas the rest (5%) are located in the field 8. According to Iraqi [9] and WHO [10] standers, most of the samples are unsuitable for human drinking purpose. For livestock purpose, all the groundwater and surface water samples are very good samples, while Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) and Na% values show that these samples are suitable for irrigation purposes. High ions concentrations make the present samples unsuitable for all industries.

Calcareous Nannofossils Biostratigraphy of Tanjero Formation at Azmer anticline Northern Iraq
...Show More Authors

Seventy three species of calcareous nannofossils are recorded from the studied section of Tanjero Formation at Azmer anticline, Sulimaniya, Northern Iraq. The studied section reveals four  biozones arranged in an ascending order  from oldest to youngest as follows; Tranolithus phacelosus Interval Biozone (CC23) Part, Rienhardtites lives Interval  Biozone (CC24), Arkhangelskilla cymbiformis Interval Biozone (CC25), and Nephrolithus frequens Rang Biozone (CC26) Part. These biozones are correlated with other calcareous nannofossil biozones of both local and regional sections, leading to conclude a possible age of  Late Campanian- Maastrichtian.

The Effect of Expected Water Shortage on Net Primary Productivity and Rain Use Efficiency in the Tigris-Euphrates Basin
...Show More Authors

Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, originating in Turkey and cutting through both Syria and Iraq, have experienced drastic reductions in water flows in recent years due to increasing water demand, hydro-engineering projects, and climate change. The decline in water flows has led to decreased agricultural yields. Iraq reported its worst cereal harvest in a decade in 2009, indicating that with a decline in water supplies, a potential food security problem emerges. This study, therefore, addressed the effect of water availability on (1) Net Primary Productivity (NPP) and (2) Rain Use Efficiency (RUE) in the Tigris-Euphrates (T-E) basin. Results displayed that NPP increases significantly from the arid and semi-arid sites in the south to the wetter

Water Quality Index of Euphrates River Near Al- Musayyab Power Plant
...Show More Authors

This research deals with analyzing samples of water from the Euphrates River before and after (50m, 200m, 500m, and 1000m from the outflow)the power plant of AL-Musayyab. A Water Quality Index (WQI) analysis was performed, which is a helpful tool for rapid estimation of the quality of any water resource.. Water quality of  the river was classified into good, poor, very poor, and unsuitable for drinking, based on physico-chemical parameters such as pH, total hardness (TH), and concentrations of the major ions of calcium (Ca+2), sodium (Na+), magnesium (Mg+2), potassium (K+), nitrate (NO3-2), sulphate (SO4-2), phosphate (PO4-2), and Chloride (Cl-),

Water Quality Assessment of Tigris River Using Overall Index of Pollution (OIP)
...Show More Authors

This study was performed on the Tigris River (Baghdad city section) during the period between December 2016 and December 2018 to assess seasonal variation in water quality using the Overall Index of Pollution (OIP). The OIP is one of the reliable tools for the assessment of surface water quality. To calculate OIP-values, eight parameters were measured ( pH, Dissolved Oxygen "DO", Biological Oxygen Demand "BOD", Total Dissolved Solid "TDS", Total Hardness "TH", calcium "Ca", Sulphate "SO4" and Alkalinity). The results showed the anthropogenic activities impact of Baghdad population that directly discharge of "inadequate treated" waste water to the river.  OIP values were acceptable (1˃OIP˃ 1.7) in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2018. However, in
