A Study of Drinking Water Properties in Some Hospitals in Baghdad City

One of the bigger problems in drinking water is disinfection by-products (DBPs) that come from chlorinated disinfection. This study’s goal was to evaluate the drinking water in Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Ibn Sina Hospital and Ibn-Al-Nafis Hospital.  Samples were collected between October 2018 and September 2019. Physical and chemical characteristics of the water were studied, including (temperature, hydrogen ion (pH), total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, free residual chlorine, total organic carbon (TOC), total trihalomethanes (THMs), total halo acetic acid (THAAs)). Data analysis showed the highest value of study temperature, pH, TDS, EC, turbidity, free residual chlorine and TOC which was 37oC, 8.4,790 mg/l, 1251 µS/cm-1, 15 NTU, 1.7 mg/l, and 6.7 mg/l  respectively. Total trihalomethanes (THMs) results of drinking water samples from different sites showed that the highest value was 129.6 µg/l in Ibn Sina Hospital during summer while the lowest value was 41.3 µg/l in Ibn Sina Hospital in winter. The results of total halo acetic acid (THAAs) of drinking water sampled from different sites showed that the highest value of 72.9 µg/l was recorded in the sample collected from Ibn Sina Hospital during summer and the lowest THAAs water content of 40.2 µg/l was obtained in the sample collected from Ibn-Al-Nafis during winter. The results of this research were acceptable and within the range of Iraqi standards.

Imipenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from patients and hospitals environment in Baghdad

During 2011, 1900 clinical specimens and 240 hospital environment specimens were collected from four hospitals in Baghdad. 128 isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii were obtained from clinical and environmental specimens in a percentage of 6.05% and 5.42%, respectively. The highest percentage of isolation, 83.62% was of sputum specimens and lower percentage of burns specimens 5.22%. The lowest incidence was of age range (71-80) years old group whereas the highest incidence was of age range (31-40) years old group. Qualitative and Quantitative study of Epipelic algae in Tigris River within Baghdad City, Iraq

The present study conducted to study epipelic algae in the Tigris River within Baghdad city for one year from September 2011 to August 2012 due to the importance role of benthic algae in lotic ecosystems. Five sites have been chosen along the river. A total of 154 species of epipelic algae was recorded belongs to 45 genera, where Bacillariophyceae (Diatoms) was the dominant groups followed by Cyanophyceae and Chlorophyceae. Population density represents an important indicator for determining the growth of the size of urban areas. Population density has a direct impact on the quality of life, and its excessive rise may lead to the deterioration of basic service facilities. The problem of the research is that the increase in the total population densities of the residential neighborhood may reflect negatively on the nature of the services provided to the residents in these shops, and thus the failure to achieve sustainability in the residential locality. Evaluation of the Ground Water in Baghdad Governorate / Iraq

by quaternary sediments. The sediments are composed mainly by cyclic alteration of

aquifer for all parts of Baghdad governorate.
Arc GIS 9.3 and GMS 6.5 programs were used in drawing high accurate
estimating maps, to define salinity, type of the ground waters, the general direction
of their movement, the distribution values of transmissivity of upper aquifer, with
distribution and the amount of draw down for these wells, also drawing map for the
