One of the most prevalent illnesses in developing countries is myocardial infarction (MI), which develops when the heart's blood supply is suddenly interrupted and causes tissue damage. It is connected to several metabolic risk factors, including diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. The objective of this study was to assess how oxidative stress (OS) contributed to the pathophysiology of MI and T2DM. The current study examined 152 male samples, including 52 MI patients without T2DM (G1), 50 MI patients with T2DM (G2), and 50 seemingly healthy men as controls (C). The levels of fasting blood sugar (FBS), C-reactive protein (CRP), total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), oxidative stress index (OSI), malondialdehyde (MDA), and total peroxidase activity were assessed. Based on the results, CRP levels increased significantly in both the G1 and G2 groups compared to the C group, with G2 reporting greater significant increases than G1. Both the G1 and G2 groups considerably exceeded the C group in terms of TOS, OSI, MDA, and total peroxidase activity. In contrast to the C group, the TAS was found to be much lower in the G1 and G2 groups. Additionally, there were no noticeable variations in the TOS, TAS, OSI, MDA, or total peroxidase activity between the G1 and G2 groups. According to our findings, individuals with MI and T2DM had an increased OS and a diminished antioxidant system. Consequently, OS may be crucial to the pathophysiology and prognosis of MI and T2DM.
To determine the association between cigarette smoking and oxidative stress, a study was conducted in the period from January 2020 to April 2021, at College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University, Baghdad, Iraq. The Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique was utilized for measurement the antioxidant enzymes including: Glutathione superoxide (GPX) and catalase (CAT) and the biomarker of lipid peroxidation Malondialdehyde (MDA). Also, the gene expression of Nrf2 and HO-1were determined by using RT-PCR technique. The results indicate lower level of both GPX and CAT (p ≤ 0.001) in smokers compared with non-smokers. While the result of MDA indicate higher level in smokers (p≤0.001) compared with nonsmokers. The Nrf2 and HO-1 gene exp

Till now microalbuminuria, with its restrictions, is the early marker of DN, appeared after the disease exacerbation. Thus, new biomarkers are required to predict the early onset of DN before the appearance of microalbuminuria. The aim of this study is to investigate the possible use of uVDBP in the early prediction of DN. Fifty diabetic patients with DN and 40 diabetic patients without DN for both types of diabetes were enrolled in this study. All patients were tested for uACR, uVDBP (measured by ELISA), and blood HbA1c. The results demonstrated a highly significant elevation of uAC

This work was conducted to estimate the roles of oxidative stress, vitamin B12, homocysteine (HCY), and DNA methylation in BC disease progression. Sixty BC patients (age range 33–80 years) and 30 healthy controls were recruited for this study. Patients with BC were split to group 1 consisted of stage II BC women (low level), and group 2 consisted of patients in stages III and IV (high level). Malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPX3), HCY, and vitamin B12 levels in the study groups were measured. Also, the 5-methylcytosine (5mC) global DNA methylation levels were evaluated. The results showed a significant

The activity rate of maltase in patients (6.40±2.17) I.U/ml and activity rate of maltase in normal (0.44±0.20)I.U/ml. The results of the study reveal that maltase activity of type 2 diabetes patient's urine shows significant increase (P<0.01) compare to normal.
One of the most common forms of diabetes is Type-2 that occurs due to the failure of cells in recognizing and responding to insulin if not accurately treated. The aim of this work is to evaluate the relations of thyroid hormones, vitamins, and lipid peroxidation with the glycemic index in patients experiencing Type-2 diabetes. Some tests of biochemical parameters and vitamins were conducted on 35 patients experiencing Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and 35 healthy subjects. The results indicated the increase in the levels of MDA (3.86 ± 0.97 µmol/L), HbA1c (8.27 ± 1.66 %), FBS (198.34 ± 32.41 mg/dl) and TSH (5.67 ±0.34 mIU/L) in the blood of diabetic subjects in comparison to the controls at a P value lower than 0.05. The present study attempts to shed light on one of the factors that may play a role as a causative agent in these neurological diseases by finding a correlation between the Herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 in patients with Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis by detecting the virus in these patients using immunological techniques. Sixty patients with neurological diseases (40 patients with Multiple sclerosis and 20 patients with Parkinson’s disease) who’s ages ranged from (17-76) years have been investigated. Samples wer

Various complications of diabetes have been described with periodontitis being added as the sixth complication of diabetes mellitus. Matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) has been identified as major tissue-destructive enzyme in periodontal disease. MMP-8 is released from neutrophils in a latent, inactive pro form and becomes activated during periodontal inflammation by independent and/or combined actions of host-derived inflammatory mediators .C-reactive protein is a systemic marker released during the acute phase of an inflammatory response. Objective: To determine of coronary care unit nurses' knowledge regarding patient rehabilitation after myocardial infarction. Methodology: A cross- sectional study was designed in the Cardiac Care Unit of Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital and the Specialized Center for Cardiac Surgery and Catheterization for the period from (November 7, 2022) to (May 12, 2023).
