The Effect of Expected Water Shortage on Net Primary Productivity and Rain Use Efficiency in the Tigris-Euphrates Basin
...Show More Authors

Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, originating in Turkey and cutting through both Syria and Iraq, have experienced drastic reductions in water flows in recent years due to increasing water demand, hydro-engineering projects, and climate change. The decline in water flows has led to decreased agricultural yields. Iraq reported its worst cereal harvest in a decade in 2009, indicating that with a decline in water supplies, a potential food security problem emerges. This study, therefore, addressed the effect of water availability on (1) Net Primary Productivity (NPP) and (2) Rain Use Efficiency (RUE) in the Tigris-Euphrates (T-E) basin. Results displayed that NPP increases significantly from the arid and semi-arid sites in the south to the wetter sites in the north, meaning that NPP increases with precipitation, evaporation, and growing season and decreases with temperature. In contrast, RUE decreases significantly from the arid and semi-arid sites in the south to the wetter sites in the north.

The Effect of Asphaltene on the Stability of Iraqi Water in Crude Oil Emulsions
...Show More Authors

In the present work, asphaltenes and resins separated from emulsion samples collected from two Iraqi oil wells, Nafut Kana (Nk) and Basrah were used to study the emulsion stability. The effect of oil resins to asphaltene (R/A) ratio, pH of the aqueous phase, addition of paraffinic solvent (n-heptane), aromatic solvent (toluene), and blend of both (heptol) in various proportions on the stability of emulsions had been investigated. The conditions of experiments were specified as an agitation speed of 1000 rpm for 30 minutes, heating at 50 °C, and water content of 30%.  The results showed that as the R/A ratio increases, the emulsion will be unstable and the amount of water separated from emulsion increases. It was noticed that the em

An Ecological Comparison of Benthic Invertebrate Communities Between Sewage and Tigris River Water – Baghdad
...Show More Authors

In the current study, two sites were selected from the city of Adhamiya, central Baghdad. The first site is the Adhamiya Corniche, which includes a sample of river water and the second includes domestic sewage in the same area. The total density of benthic invertebrates was 775 ind/m2, which is divided into 15 taxa. Biological indices were found, such as the stability index, the abundance index, the biodiversity index (Shannon’s index), the homogeneity index, and the invader’s guide. The result showed an increase in the density of benthic invertebrates, as well as an increase in the diversity of these organisms.

Preparing the Electrical Signal Data of the Heart by Performing Segmentation Based on the Neural Network U-Net
...Show More Authors

Research on the automated extraction of essential data from an electrocardiography (ECG) recording has been a significant topic for a long time. The main focus of digital processing processes is to measure fiducial points that determine the beginning and end of the P, QRS, and T waves based on their waveform properties. The presence of unavoidable noise during ECG data collection and inherent physiological differences among individuals make it challenging to accurately identify these reference points, resulting in suboptimal performance. This is done through several primary stages that rely on the idea of preliminary processing of the ECG electrical signal through a set of steps (preparing raw data and converting them into files tha

Performance Evaluation the Turbidity Removal Efficiency of AL-Muthana Water Treatment Plant
...Show More Authors

Turbidity is a visual property of water that expresses the amount of suspended substances in the water. Its presence in quantities more significant than the permissible limit makes the water undrinkable and reduces the effectiveness of disinfectants in treating pathogens. On this basis, turbidity is used as a basic indicator for measuring water quality. This study aims to evaluate the removal efficiency of AL- Muthanna WTP. Water turbidity was used as a basic parameter in the evaluation, using performance improvement evaluation and data from previous years (2016 to 2020). The average raw water turbidity was 26.7 NTU, with a minimum of 14 NTU, with a maximum of 48 NTU. Water turbidity value for 95% of settling daily reading data was
