Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) is an endemic disease and one of the major health problems in Iraq. Leishmania tropica is known as the causative agent of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Baghdad.The classical serological methods of diagnosing leishmaniasis is a poor sensitivity especially for the sub genus and time consuming Here we have investigated two primer pairs, one specific for Leishmania as genus and the primer specific for the species of L. tropica to be detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).Samples were collected from (AL-karama Teaching Hospital) and whole genomic DNA was extracted from axenic promastigotes.The extracted DNA was amplified by PCRwith two KDNA primer pairs, for genus specific (13A/13B) and (Lmj4/Uni21) to identify the specific species of cutaneous leishmaniasis. Amplified PCR products then run on gel electrophoresis and two visible bands of the two primers were seen, 120 and 800 bp, respectively. Our results indicate that the PCR technique is sensitive and specific for the detection and differentiation of cutaneous leishmaniasis agents and can be recommended to applied in hospitals and research centers.
RESRAD is a computer model designed to estimate risks and radiation doses from residual radioactive materials in soil. Thirty seven soil samples were collected from the area around the berms of Al-Tuwaitha site and two samples as background taken from an area about 3 km north of the site. The samples were measured by gamma-ray spectrometry system using high purity germanium (HPGe) detector. The results of samples measurements showed that three contaminated area with 238U and 235U found in the study area. The novel Vierordt’s approach, or simultaneous equation method, was created and validated for the concurrent determination of vincristine sulfate (VCS) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) in pure solutions utilizing UV spectrophotometry. It is simple, precise, economical, rapid, reliable, and accurate. This method depends on measuring absorbance at two wavelengths, 296 nm and 278 nm, which correspond to the λmax of VCS and BSA in deionized water, respectively. During 2011, 1900 clinical specimens and 240 hospital environment specimens were collected from four hospitals in Baghdad. 128 isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii were obtained from clinical and environmental specimens in a percentage of 6.05% and 5.42%, respectively. The highest percentage of isolation, 83.62% was of sputum specimens and lower percentage of burns specimens 5.22%. The lowest incidence was of age range (71-80) years old group whereas the highest incidence was of age range (31-40) years old group.
