In Vitro Assessment of Miltefosine Activity Against Promastigotes and Axenic Amastigotes of Leishmania tropica

Leishmaniasis is a worldwide disease still treated with expensive compounds that present severe side effects, and are frequently ineffective emphasizing the importance to search effective compounds against this disease. Miltefosine drug (HePC) that used as antitumor agent has been used against Leishmania tropica in two forms promastigote and axenic amastigote in vitro conditions. Different concentrations (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 μM) of HePC were performed and exposed to both parasite forms in comparison to sodium stibogluconate (Sb) drug. Parasites viability then was determined using MTT assay after 12, 24, and 48hr of exposure. DNA was extracted from treated and untreated parasites after 48hr of exposure and qualitative analysis of the total genomic DNA fragmentation was carried out through using agarose gel electrophoresis.
The IC50 of HePC and Sb were 17.07 and 25.72 μM against L. tropica promastigotes, respectively, while, the IC50 of them were 18.08 and 21.29μM against axenic amastigotes respectively. Fragmented DNA in agarose gel electrophoresis was revealed in both parasite forms exposed to all used concentrations of HePC. These results showed the significant activity of miltefosine against the viability of L. tropica promastigotes and axenic amastigotes.

Corrosion rate tests were carried out on carbon steel under concentration cells conditions of oxygen and sodium chloride. The effect of aeration in one compartment on the corrosion rate of both coupled metals was determined. In addition, the effects of time and temperatures on the corrosion rate of both coupled metals and galvanic currents between them were investigated. Survey Study on the Prevalence of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Iraq

Human cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is caused by Leishmania sp. parasite and endemic in Iraq. The current study was including analysis of available database from Iraqi CDC to determine the distribution of CL cases for the period (2008-2015 years) in Iraq. Total reported cases for this period were 17001 (range 2.9-10.5 per 100,000 individuals). Highest reported cases were recorded in the year 2015 (4000 cases). Male infections cases of CL (50.8%) were more than female infections (49.2%). Evaluation of the Efficacy of Different Serological Methods (rK39 dipstick, ELISA and IFA) Techniques in the Diagnosis of Visceral leishmaniasis.

ELISA and IFA tests for the diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis using blood
samples. Samples were collected from 146 suspected patients and 30 healthy
individual as control. The results showed 52 (35.62%), 58 (39.73%) and 71
(48.64%) positive samples by rK39, ELISA and IFA , respectively. IFA test showed
