The Antimicrobial Activity of Lactobacillus Acidophilus Against Intestinal and Foodborne Pathogens

In this study, isolated of Lactobacillus acidophilus were evaluated for their antipathogenic
bacterial activity. The antibacterial activity of the three isolated against
intestinal and food borne pathogenic bacteria in vitro was determined by Well's
Diffusion method, a total of three isolates of Lactobacillus acidophilus isolated from
ten different brands of traditional yoghurts showed a various antibacterial activity
against tested pathogenic bacterium, Cronobacter sakazakii isolated from stool
samples was more sensitive to the inhibition(23mm)inhibtion zone than were
Helicobacter pylori that isolated from stool samples (16mm) inhibtion zone and
Clostridium perfringens that isolated from stool samples (15mm). These results may
provide a basis for support therapies for the treatment of intestinal and foodborne
pathogens.

Antibacterial Activity of Lactobacillus buchneri Bacteriocin against Vibrio parahaemolyticus

Eleven yoghurt samples were collected from local markets in Baghdad to isolate Lactobacillus buchneri. Only 3 isolates of L. buchneri were found and the isolate No. 3 was the most producer of bacteriocin. Bacteriocin was adsorbed 100% onto silicic acid at pH 6.0-7.0. Below or above these pH values, adsorption was decreased, ranging between 35 and 90%. Therefore, pH 6.0 was used for the purification procedure. The purification procedure including silicic acid adsorption/desorption and cation-exchange chromatography (CEC) resulted in a 11.11 fold increase in the final specific activity of pure bacteriocin (1176.47 Au/mg) compared to the culture supernatant which was 32.64 Au/mg. Antagonistic Activity of Bacteriocin-producing Lactobacillus Against Candida spp

     In order to screen antifungal activity of lactobacilli that produce bacteriocin against the yeast Candida, ninety-two food and clinical samples were collected. Lactobacillus is one of Lactic Acid Bacteria group, they are known to exhibit antagonistic activity against pathogenic organisms. This study evaluates the protective effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus Crud Bacteriocin like substance against growth of some food borne pathogenic bacteria. Estimating the inhibitory effect of Lactobacillus isolated from vagina against some pathogens of genital infections in group of women.

The effect of surlactin produced by Lactobacillus acidophilus on eye infectious bacteria in rabbits

Twenty five vaginal swabs from outpatients' healthy women were collected from Kamal Al-Samarai Hospital, Baghdad, to isolate and identify of Lactobacillus acidophilus. Three isolates were diagnosed as L. acidophilus which represents 15% of the total number of lactic acid bacterial (LAB) isolates; other LAB types represent 65% (20 isolates).The ability of L. acidophilus to produce surlactin was detected after measuring its biological activity to inhibit the adhesion of biofilm formed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa to surfaces using test tube method. The antimicrobial activity of salvia pratensis extracts against some microbial agent
