Power-Efficient Virtual Machine Placement in Cloud Datacenters using Heuristic Assisted Enhanced Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization

The increase in cloud computing services and the large-scale construction of data centers led to excessive power consumption. Datacenters contain a large number of servers where the major power consumption takes place. An efficient virtual machine placement algorithm is substantial to attain energy consumption minimization and improve resource utilization through reducing the number of operating servers. In this paper, an enhanced discrete particle swarm optimization (EDPSO) is proposed. The enhancement of the discrete PSO algorithm is achieved through modifying the velocity update equation to bound the resultant particles and ensuring feasibility. Furthermore, EDPSO is assisted by two heuristic algorithms random first fit (RFF) and random best fit (RBF) to produce hydride algorithms termed RFF-EDPSO and RBF-EDPSO. The proposed algorithms are evaluated and compared with recent algorithms to minimize power consumption. Simulation results showed the effective performance of RFF-EDPSO and RBF-EDPSO in minimizing the number of operating servers.

Evaluation of Serum Transaminases Levels In Transfused β-Thalssaemia Major Patients

Background: β-thalassemia major is a genetic disorder characterized by reduced rate of β-globin chain production. Clinically, β-thalassemia major is a severe, transfusion-dependant disorder; repeated blood transfusion will lead eventually to chronic liver disease.
Patients and Methods: One hundred patients ; 56 males and 44 females who were known cases with β-thalassemia major on regular blood transfusion, aged between 6 months and 18 years, were studied in a private pathology laboratory, between January 2002-January 2006.Blood was drawn to estimate serum glutamic pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) and serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) levels.
Results: Sixty-six patients (66%) had elevated S

The Use of Bracing Dampers in Steel Buildings under Seismic Loading

This study focuses on the modeling of manufactured damper when used in steel buildings. The main aim of the manufactured dampers is to protect the steel buildings from the damaging effects that may result due to earthquakes by introducing an extra damping in addition to the traditional damping.
Only Pure Manufactured Dampers, has been considered in this study. Viscous modeling of damping is generally preferred in structural engineering as it leads to a linear model then it has been used during this study to simulate the behavior of the Pure Manufactured Damper.
After definition of structural parameters of a manufactured damper (its stiffness and its damping) it can be used as a structural element that can be added to a mathematica

Estimation of Antibodies against Saccharomyces Cerevisiae in Patients with Indeterminate Colitis

Background: Indeterminate colitis (IC) originally referred to those 10–15% of cases of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in which there was difficulty distinguishing between ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD) in the colectomy specimen and histopathology examination. However, IC is increasingly used when a definitive diagnosis of UC or CD cannot be made at colonoscopy examination, colonic biopsies or at colectomy. The diagnostic difficulties may explain the variably reported prevalence of IC. Clinically, most patients with IC evolve to a definite diagnosis of UC or CD on follow up.
Patients and methods: PATIENTS GROUP: Consisted of 80 patients with indeterminate colitis (IC), their ag
