The present study aims to detect the distribution of dfrA1 and cat1 antibiotic resistance genes among uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) in pregnant teen women and determine their susceptibility to common antibiotic uses. We collected urine (116) samples from patients in hospitals in Baghdad, Iraq. Isolation and identification of bacteria (culturing, biochemical test, and genetically by 16S rRNA gene), antibiotic susceptibility tests (eight antibiotics), and detection of the dfrA1 and cat1 resistance genes, and used SPSS program for statistically analyzing the results. The distributed UPEC in patients most than another causative agent in percentage (50%). It was highly resistant to Trimethoprim (82%) and Cefotaxime (82%) antibiotics. And they highly distributed frequency for dfrA1-gene (Trimethoprim resistance gene) (74%) than cat1-gene (Chloramphenicol resistance gene) (38%).
In this study, only four isolates produce CNF1 from 76 isolatesof uropathogenic Escherichia coli.cnf1 gene was detected by using PCR technique, while cytotoxic necrotizing factor 1(CNF1) was determined by Immunoblotting assay.

Multi-drug resistance in Listeria monocytogenes is considered a major public health problem associated with foodborne outbreaks and causes high hospitalization and mortality rates. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial resistant genes among Listeria monocytogenes isolated from meat and clinical samples. Phenotypically, the isolates were tested for their susceptibility against the 12 most commonly used antimicrobials in veterinary and human therapy via the disc diffusion method, while conventional PCR was performed to study the presence or absence of 14 resistance genes predicted in L. monocytogenes isolates. The study established that 30(66.66%) of L. monocytogenes isolates showe

Show MoreThis study was established to discover and determine multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae from women suffering urinary tract infections, specifically in Mosul city. A total of 62 E. coli and 32 K. pneumoniae bacterial isolates were considered for this study. All isolates were characterized using standard bacterial culture methods, including culture on MacConkey agar, Eosin Methylene Blue agar and biochemical tests. Also antibiotic sensitivity test using standard disc method for different antibiotics and also special discs to detect ESBL activity were carried out, in addition to PCR as molecular identification tool. The results showed that most isolated E. coli
... Show MoreAdhesion (type 1 fimbriae) and host defense avoidance mechanisms (capsule or lipopolysaccharide) have been shown to be prevalent in Escherichia coli isolates associated with urinary tract infections. In this work, 50 uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) isolated from children with urinary tract infections were genotypically characterized by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. We used two genes; fimH and kpsMTII, both of them previously identified in uropathogenic E.coli (UPEC) isolates. The PCR assay results identified fimH (90.0)% and kpsMTII (72.0)% isolates. In the present study, was also demonstrated that these genes may be included in both or one of them within a single isolate.
A total of 100 blood samples taken from patients with suspected typhoid fever aged between (1-60) years, were involved in this study. Blood samples were cultured directly on brain heart infusion broth. After that sub cultured of isolates on MacConkey agar and XLD agar and S.S agar to find the Salmonella typhi then identified by the biochemical and antibiotic sensitivity test. Resistant genes were identified by using aacc2 gene and cat gene. Results showed that there was 7 Salmonella typhi isolates from blood culture, as well as, aacc2 gene success in amplification of 450bp fragment for amino glycoside resistant, while not improve amplification

Show MoreEscherichia coli infections are becoming difficult treated because of extensive resistance to antibiotic among these organisms and manufacturing extended-spectrum beta lactamases enzymes (ESBLs) make them resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. This study aims to offer a summary of the main horizontal transmission apparatuses between E. coli as well as Staphylococcus aureus and emergence resistance to antibiotics. Fifty of the E. coli and 50 of S. aureus isolates were examined to obtain minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) results. These isolates were then tested by conventional polymerase chain-reaction for the existence or absenc

Show MoreThis research was aimed to the purification and characterization of cytosine deaminase as a medically important enzyme from locally isolated Escherichia coli; then studying its cytotoxic anticancer effects against colon cancer cell line. Cytosine deaminase was subjected to three purification steps including precipitation with 90% ammonium sulfate saturation, ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose column, and gel filtration chromatography throughout Sephadex G-200 column. Specific activity of the purified enzyme was increased up to 9 U/mg with 12.85 folds of purification and 30.85% enzyme recovery. Characterization study of purified enzyme revealed that the molecular weight of cytosine deaminase produced by E. coli was about 48 KDa,

From 50 stool samples collected from children with diarrhea of both sexes who visited various hospitals in Baghdad, 26 isolates of E.coli were found to belong to the phylogenetic group E. The findings revealed that the percentage of E.coli for thephylogenetic group E is (52%) , making it the dominant group among the other phylogenetic groups. The findings demonstrated that 100% of the E.coli isolates from phylogenetic group E are resistant to penicillin, and only 15% are resistant to imipenem. Multi-drug resistance (MDR) was found to be 15%, while XDR reached 85%. The results of thephylogenetic group for the remaining species of isolates in this study were group A (2/50 and by 4%), gr

Rapid detection in clinical laboratories is essential for the judicious recognition of antimicrobial resistant organisms. So, the growth of Uropathgenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) isolates with Multidrug-resistant (MDR) and Extensively Drug-resistant (XDR) profiles that thwart therapy for (UTIs) has been detected and has straight squeezed costs and extended hospital stays. This study aims to detect MDR- and XDR-UPEC isolates. Out of 42 UPEC clinical isolates were composed from UTI patients. The bacterial strains were recognized by standard laboratory protocols. Susceptibility to antibiotic was measured by the standard disk diffusi
