Serum level evaluation of interleukin-18 in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome

This study is designed to measure the level of interleukin (IL) 18 in polycystic ovary women and its association with obesity. In this study, blood samples from 50 women with PCOS and 30 healthy control women were collected from AL-Yarmouk Teaching, Baghdad Teaching hospitals During January 2018 - March 2018 for estimation of their serum level of IL18 by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique and evaluation serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), Testosterone, prolactin (PRL) and Estradiol (E2) by using Electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA). The results showed that there is a highly significant increase (P < 0.001) in serum level of IL18 in PCOS women than in healthy control group. As well as, the results of IL-18 value according to Body mass index (BMI) showed significant difference (P<0.05) between BMI and IL-18 level in all the PCOS patient subgroups (normal weight, overweight and obesity). Also, there was a significant increase in LH, FSH, PRL and T, and significant decrease in E2 was detected in PCOS patients.

The Pro-inflammatory IL6 and serum glucose in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders. PCOS produces symptoms in approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age (12–45 years old).
Objective: To detect the level of IL-6 in PCOS patients correlated with their serum glucose.
Patients and methods: This is a prospective study carried out at Baghdad teaching hospital in Baghdad/Iraq from November 2011 to January 2012. Detection of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Serum from Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorder. Effect of Metformin and Antioxidant Agents on Hirsutism in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Forty six Iraqi women with PCOS were involved in this study . They were treated with metformin alone and with antioxidant agents (vitamin E or C).It was found that all patients who treated with metformin or with combination of metformin with antioxidant agents showed significant decrease in hirsutism score. The treatment of metformin with antioxidant agents is of great benefit in treatment of hirsutism in PCOS due to that there was no worsening effect after treatment. This may indicate that antioxidant agents may participate in alleviation of hirsutism so it can be said that oxidative stress may play an important role in developing of hirsutism in PCOS.

Effect of pioglitazone treatment on serum chemerin and vaspin levels in polycystic ovary syndrome.

Abdominal fat synthesizes a variety of adipokines, including vaspin and chemerin, that affect the resistance to insulin.
