Prevalence and Identification of Some Ocular Bacterial Infections in Baghdad City

The study included 176 patients attended to Iben AL-Haithem hospital of ophthalmology in Baghdad city , at age of (14-77) years from the period from September 2016-April 2017, there were 138(78%) patients having a positive culture of ocular bacterial infections. Men were representing 41% while women 59%, the patients with bacterial ocular infection from Baghdad were55% while the internally displaced were 45% , the patients with ocular bacterial infections were representing 20% at mean age of 21.6±0.3y, 26% at 37.5±0.21y , 24% at53.5±0.23 y and 30% at69.5±0.10 y. The results showed 37% of the patients with ocular bacterial infections were having a history of diabetes mellitus and 44% with high blood pressure at mean age of 69.5±0.10 y. Gram positive bacteria represented 58% from the total isolates ,while gram negative were 42% . S.aureus was the common dominant isolates 29% followed by S.pneumoniae 21% , P.areuginosa 16% ,E coli 11% , Klibseilla spp 7% S.epidermidis 6%,Enterobacter spp6% , S.pyogenes 2% , Citrobacter freundii and Proteus spp 1% each of them , the mix infection was found in three samples including (E. coli and P. aeruginosa),( E. coli and S. aureus) and (P. aeruginosa and S. aureus) . S. aureus isolates were susceptible to Amikacin 88%, Doxycycline 84% and they were highly resistance to Clindamycin 76% , while S.epidermidis isolates were susceptible to each of Amikacin, Cloramphenicol , Clindamycin and Doxycycline at a percentage of 80% and they were resistance to tetracycline 60% . S.pneumoniae isolates were susceptible to Clarithromycin 94% , Ceftriaxone 88%, S.pyogenes isolates were susceptible 100% to the most types of antibiotics such as Erythromycin , Clarithromycin , Cloramphenicol , Clindamycin and Ceftriaxone . P.areuginosa isolates were susceptible to Gentamicin 100%.,Ciprofloxacin , Doxycycline , Amikacin 72% for each antibiotic ,while E.coli isolates were susceptible to Cloramphenicol 90%, Ciprofloxacin and Gentamicin 80%. Klibseilla spp isolates were susceptible to Ciprofloxacin and Gentamicin 100%, Ceftriaxone 83% while Proteus spp isolate were susceptible to all types of antibiotics 100% Enterobacter spp isolates were susceptible to Ciprofloxacin 100% ,both of Gentamicin and Cloramphenicol 80% , Citrobacter freundii isolate were susceptible to Ceftriaxone , Cloramphenicol , Ciprofloxacin , Gentamicin 100%.

Pollutionary effect of the Medical city waste water on the Tigris river bacterial indicators on Baghdad city

Bacteriological characteristics of Tigris river water were assessed monthly to monitor the impact of pollutants of Medical City waste water for the period from January to June-2013. Four stations were selected for the study, the first station placed before the Medical City Complex (500 meters). The second station represent Medical City sewage discharge into the river, where represents the study area. The third station placed (500 meters) after the second station, and the forth station is located on (2000 meters) after the second station.
Samples collected monthly to monitor the changes of water indicators showed that: Total Bacterial Count (10000 to 2700000 cells/1 ml), Total Coliform (200-3700 cells/100 ml), Fecal Coliform (100-2400

Isolation and identification of some bacterial isolates from soil contaminated with crude oil and Testing Their Effectiveness

Bacterial strains were isolated from oil-contaminated soil, in 2018, these isolates were identified, and with the aim of finding out the ability of these isolates to degrede the oil compounds, the color change of medium which added to it isolates was read by the method of Pacto Bushnell Hans. Then the change in the petroleum compounds was read by gas chromatography, for the most effective isolates.

The nine isolated bacterial showed different degrees of color change, and the isolates (Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Micrococcus) outperformed the color change amount (78, 78, 77) %, respectively, compared to the control, and the three isolates together showed the best color change of 90.7. % Compared to the control, and the

Bacterial isolation from internal organs of rats (Rattus rattus) captured in Baghdad city of Iraq

Aim: Rats are accused in disseminating many zoonotic diseases. This study aimed to isolate and identify bacteria from internal organs of rats captured in Baghdad City, Iraq. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 black rats (R. rattus) were trapped from different areas in Baghdad city. Rats were kept in individual plastic cages for 3 h before euthanizing. Deep pharyngeal swab, intestinal content, urine, and pieces of the liver and spleen, lung, kidney, and brain were obtained aseptically. The specimens were inoculated into peptone water and incubated at 37°C for 24 h for enrichment. A loopful of each specimen was then subcultured onto MacConkey Agar, Blood Agar, and Mannitol Salt Agar. CHROMagar O157 H7 and CHROMagar Listeria were u

Prevalence of bacterial types in Wagner grade three of diabetic foot ulcer

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the chronic wound infection and leads to non-traumatic lower limb amputation. Advances in diabetes research are significant and much needed because diabetes is on the rise worldwide and is considered by some experts already to be at an epidemic level. Among diabetic patients 70% were males and 30% were females. Aerobic bacteria 104(82%) were the most frequently isolated than anaerobic bacteria 23(18%). Among aerobes Gram negative bacteria 67(64.4%) were more commonly isolated than Gram positive 37(35.5%). The three most frequently found that S. aureus 28(22%) followed by P. mirabilis 22(17.3%) then E. coli 14(11%). Among anaerobic bacteria Gram negative bacteria 16(69.5%) were predominantly isolated th

Ocular Acanthamoebiasis in Iraq

Free – living or limax amoebae are small free-living protozoans which exist in fresh water and soil environment. These amoebae were found infective to man causing a fatal disease affecting the central nervous system. Fowler and Carter were the first to report four fatal human cases of acute pyogenic meningitis caused by free-living amoebae1. The genera Naegleria and Acanthamoeba are incriminated in such infections2. Swimming in contaminated water has been frequently postulated as the way of infection through the intranasal mucosa. Since
that time more than one hundred cases of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis were reported from different parts of the world. On&
