This study includedepidermal appendages characters of ten species belongingto the familyAsteraceae. Most of the studied species are characterized by eglandular, glandular, trichomesand papillae which are variable according to itskind, number of cells, shape, dimensions, characteristicsof surrounding cells, wall thickness and the position. Results showed that all species included glandular and eglandulartrichomes exceptCosmos bipinnatus, Ecliptaprostrate, andEupatoriumcannabinum that lacked in glandular trichomes and were based on their specific details.Trichomes were divided into different groups. The glandular ones involved sessile glandular or group multicellular and the head wasmace-shaped or rounded.Whereaseglandulartrichomes are classified into various groups, unicellular trichomes group with obtuse or acute apex or with tuft shape or dendroid, dicellular.Trichome group uniserriate or biserriate, and multicellular trichome group which is widely different in their shapes, dimensions, number of cell and the position. Papillae distributed on stem, corolla, and stigma have triangular-shape with acute apex or finger-like shape with obtuse apex.Hence, trichomes reveal a taxonomic importance in species identification and determine the relationships among them in their tribes.
The present work includes investigation of some features of shell morphology; shell size, shell thickness, shell colour of the land snail Monacha cantiana, in addition to the correlation between height and diameter of shell and between shell aperture diameter and shell diameter at four sites within Baghdad Province, Iraq. Also, measurements of three environmental variables were made; soil temperature, soil moisture and soil calcium content in adition to population density. Shell Aperture Index (Ia) and Shell Index (SI) for individuals from size class ranged between (9-12)mm were measured. The results showed that the deference in shell size by using (Ia) within population related to temperature, moisture and population density but, the valu

Show MoreSalinity of soil or irrigation water is one of the most important obstacle towards crop production and productivity, especially with the increasing scarcity of fresh water in Iraq and the Arab countries. The impact of salinity will be alleviated with the increasing temperature due to global warming. The objectives of this article was to shed some light on traits more related to salinity stress tolerance in oats, and to identify genetic variation of these traits. A split-plot arrangement experiment with RCBD was applied through 2011-2013 on the farm of Dept. of Field Crops/Coll. of Agric./Univ. of Baghdad. The oats cultivars; Hamel, Pimula and Genzania were set in sub-plots, whereas water quality was set in main-plots. Water quality had two

This region is rich in forest trees and pasture lands with diversity of shrubs and herbs and is expected to support the growth of several macro fungal species. However, this part of Kurdistan in Iraq is still unexplored from macrofungal point of view. In this paper three species from Pezizaceae and Pyronemataceae families that belonging to (Pezizales, Ascomycota), were reported from Iraqi Kurdistan. These macrofungal species are recorded for the first time from Iraq. Also the species were identified and showing their locations distributed on a map prepared
... Show MoreCyprinidae species are the most abundant and widely distributed fish species in the inland waters of Iraq. Cyprinids are complex species, and it is difficult to identify them on the basis of morphology. Thus, the morphological characteristics must be achieved and confirmed by molecular analysis. Twenty specimens of Cyprinion kais Heckel, 1843 (Piscies, Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae) were collected from two localities at Tigris River in the middle of Iraq: five specimens from Al-Tharthar Lake, Saladin Province, and 15 specimens from Al- Zubaydiyah sub-district, Wasit Province
There are no researches in Iraq concerned identification and ecology of protozoa in sediment. The present study has been dealt with free-living protozoa community of the Tigris river bank sediment in Baghdad city. Variable species of vegetation (reeds and wild grasses) were observed to grow at both sides of the river.
For the present study three sites were chosen at the east side of river Tigris. Monthly samples were collected from the sediment of each site over a period from January to October 2012.Total of 22 taxa were found, 12 of ciliates, 5 of each flagellates and sarcodines in the sediment samples. The highest numbers of protozoan 15 taxa were recorded from each of the sites 1&3 and little less taxa (13) were found in site 2
Let R be a ring and let A be a unitary left R-module. A proper submodule H of an R-module A is called 2-absorbing , if rsa∈H, where r,s∈R,a∈A, implies that either ra∈H or sa∈H or rs∈[H:A], and a proper submodule H of an R-module A is called quasi-prime , if rsa∈H, where r,s∈R,a∈A, implies that either ra∈H or sa∈H. This led us to introduce the concept pseudo quasi-2-absorbing submodule, as a generalization of both concepts above, where a proper submodule H of an R-module A is called a pseudo quasi-2-absorbing submodule of A, if whenever rsta∈H,where r,s,t∈R,a∈A, implies that either rsa∈H+soc(A) or sta∈H+soc(A) or rta∈H+soc(A), where soc(A) is socal of an

The aim of this paper is introduce the notion of a pseudo primary-2-absorbing submodule as generalization of 2-absorbing submodule and a pseudo-2-absorbing submodules. A proper submodule of an -module is called pseudo primary-2-absorbing if whenever , for , , implies that either or or . Many basic properties, examples and characterizations of these concepts are given. Furthermore, characterizations of pseudo primary-2-absorbing submodules in some classes of modules are introduced. Moreover, the behavior of a pseudo primary-2-absorbing submodul

Six sampling sites were selected; two on the Tharthar Arm and four sites along the Tigris River, one before the confluence as a control site and the others downstream the confluence; thirty-five copepod taxa were recorded, 34 taxa in the Tigris River and 25 taxa in the Tharthar Arm.
The highest density of Copepoda was in site 2 at Tharthar Arm was 265584.2 Ind./m3 lead to an increasing in Copepoda density in Tigris River from 63878.2 Ind./m3 in site 1 before the confluence to 127198.3 Ind./m3 in site 4 immediately downstream the confluence. Also, the me
