Aquifer depth determination of low permeability layers using geo-resistivity data: A case study of Enyigba mine area and environs, South Eastern Nigeria
...Show More Authors

Many geophysical methods have been applied to locate groundwater in Nigeria’s rural and urban villages. Locating groundwater in low permeability formations like shales and siltstones is even more challenging due to the difficulty of mapping fracture zones within these formations. The fracture zones serve as potential aquifers in low permeability formations and have been the object of groundwater search in shales, siltstones and other low permeability formations. The electrical resistivity method has proven helpful in fracture mapping within low permeability formations due to the existing resistivity contrast usually observed between the fractured and non-fractured sections in the Shales and Siltstones. Three vertical electrical geosounding datasets (VES 1, VES 2 and VES 3) were acquired in the Schlumberger configuration, using a maximum current electrode spacing of 200m to delineate the fracture zones based on their electrical resistivities. The acquired datasets were processed and modelled using IP12 Win software, while the processed datasets were correlated with local geology to estimate the depths of the fractured shales in the area. Results show five modelled geo-electric layers with depths to the fractured shales ranging from 17-25m, while aquifer thicknesses range from 7 to 12m. Aquifer resistivities range from 58 - 115 ohm-m. The curves are primarily of the QH type. One of the Vertical Electrical Sounding Data points (VES 2) encountered an anomalously low resistivity zone at a depth range of 5 to 8m which was interpreted as a galena lode. The low resistivity zone has been confirmed through exploratory drilling to tie with Lead-Zinc lodes at a depth of 8m.

Studies on the role of retinol binding protien-4 in type 2 diabetic Iraqi patients with metabolic syndrome
...Show More Authors

Several adipokines are produced and secreted from adipose tissue, such as retinol binding protein-4, which triggers metabolic syndromes and insulin resistance. Retinol binding protein-4 transfers vitamin A or retinol in the blood. Higher levels of retinol binding protein-4 are interrelated with progress of metabolic disease, comprising obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The present study investigates the role of retinol-binding protein-4 levels in type 2 diabetic Iraqi patients with metabolic syndrome. Sixty type 2 diabetic patients aged 40–53 years were examined. Of these 30 patients has metabolic syndrome and 30 without metabolic syndrome. The patients sampled were from the National Diabetes Center/ Mustansiriyah

Investigation the potential role of some medicinal plants extracts in regulating serum lipid profile in female albino rats
...Show More Authors

Strong evidence showed that many medicinal plants have the potential to reduce hyperlipidemia disease. The aim of this study was to determine the hypolipidemic activity of aqueous extracts of Fucus vesiculosus, Coleus forskohlii, Curcuma longa L., Rosmarinus officinalis L., Camellia sinensis L. and Melissa officinalis L. on lipid profile in serum taken from the blood of rats. Fifty-seven female albino rats were divided into 19 groups, each with three rats, that were treated orally with an aqueous plant extract in three different doses, except the control group which was treated with normal saline only. The chemical compositions of these extracts were analyzed using High Performance Liquid Chromatograph

Estimation of Radiation Dose from Most Common Pediatrics Radiographic Examinations within Main Central Hospitals in Najaf City, Iraq
...Show More Authors

In this study the Entrance Surface Dose (ESD) received by pediatrics patients undergoing chest, abdomen and skull X-ray examinations was estimated. The study was conducted in two hospitals in Najaf city where three radiographic systems were considered. The study participants were classified into four age groups 0-1 ,  1-5 ,  5-10  and  10-15  years. Calculations were performed using exposure factors, kVp, mAs and focal-skin distance, together with patient data age. The ESD was calculated for the involved patients who underwent an Antero-posterior (AP) chest, abdomen and skull X-ray examination. The resulted data were analyzed and compared with international dose references. For all studied radiographic examinations and all X-ray mac

Predicting the Depositional Environments of Mishrif Formation from Seismic Isopach Map in the Dujaila Oil Field, Southeast-Iraq:
...Show More Authors

In this paper, we attempt to predict the depositional environments with associated lithofacies of the main reservoir of the late Cretaceous Mishrif carbonate Formation, depending on the analysis of the created seismic isopach map by integrating seismic and well data. The isopach map was created from a 3D-seismic reflection survey carried out at the Dujaila oil field in southeastern Iraq, which is of an area of 602.26 Km2, and integrated with the data of the two explored wells. Based on the interpretation of the seismic isopach map, the diagram of the 3D-depositional environment model of Mishrif Formation was constructed. It showed three distinguished depositional environments, which were graduated from a back reef lithofacies of a shallo

The Distribution of ABO blood groups among type 2 Diabetes mellitus patients with or without Chronic Microvascular Complications
...Show More Authors

The ABO blood group system is highly polymorphic, with more than 20 distinct sub-groups; study findings are usually related to ABO phenotype, but rarely to the ABO genotype and animal models are unsatisfactory because their antigen glycosylation structure is different from humans. Both the ABO and Rh blood group systems have been associated with a number of diseases, but this is more likely related to the presence or absence of these tissue antigens throughout the body and not directly or primarily related to their presence on RBCs. A total of fifty-two 52 patients without complication of DMII, two hundred sixteen 216 patients with complication of DMII and seventy-one 71 person as healthy control were included in the study. The Anti-cancer Impact of Genetically Engineered Newcastle Disease Virus Expressing GFP Gene Against U87-MG Cell Line
...Show More Authors

A number of disorders characterized by aberrant cell proliferation are referred to as cancers. Cancer is a complicated group of mutagenic diseases that can move or infiltrate to other parts of the body. It develops through a multi-step process. The need for new therapeutic strategies is driven by malignancies resistance to conventional therapies. Use of the Newcastle disease virus as an oncolytic agent has advanced and expanded in immunocompetent carcinoma tumor models by utilizing reverse genetics techniques. Preclinical investigations have shown that recombinant NDV (rNDV-GFP), which expresses foreign genes, is proven to be effective in cancer treatment. Green fluorescent protein gene is usually used as an expression reporter for certa
