Effect of Laser Surface Treatment on Physical Properties of Composite Material (Al-B4C)

This work study the effect of laser surface heat treatment on physical properties (green density, density after sintering, theoretical density and porosity)of a composite material of an Al powder as a matrix with different percentage of B4C powder as additive material. This work was done by two stages: First stage: Production the maincomposite material which is contain Al powder with grain size 24μm as a matrix and B4C powder with grain size 50μm as additive with different weight percentage (5%,10%,15%,20%,25%,30%), and the powders Maxined for suitable time 15min, after that the mixture compacted with 2ton and sintered at 550C0. Second stage: Laser surface treatment was done for the productive composite material after sintering by using pulse Nd: YAG laser with 1J energy, wave length 1064nm and pulse duration 100ns.Laser surface heat treatment was carried out with one pulse and two pulses respectively. Macrohardness of the composite material was measured after the sintering process and after the laser surface heat treatment with one pulse and two pulses, also photo-micrographies were taken for the specimens by using ordinary microscopic after each of sintering process and laser surface heat treatment. The results show that improvement of physical properties mentioned above and macrohardness after laser surface treatment with two pulses more than one pulse.

Comparison the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Composite Materials (Al /SiC and Al/ B4C) Produced by Powder Technology

In this investigation, metal matrix composites (MMCs) were manufactured by using powder technology. Aluminum 6061 is reinforced with two different ceramics particles (SiC and B4C) with different volume fractions as (3, 6, 9 and 12 wt. %). Enhancement of surface properties of polyetheretherketone implant material by fractional laser texturing

Effect of immersion in chemical solution on the mechanical & physical properties for composite material reinforced by Nano alumina Particles

In this research Epoxy resin was reinforced by nano alumina (AL2O3) particles in grain size(25-30 nm) with two weight ratios (2,4)% then compared with pure Epoxy. Four mechanical tests were performed on these materials include Hardness, flexural, impact & compression strengths before and after immersion in tap water and chemical solutions (CH3COOH) acid, (KOH) base at (0.5N) ,The diffusivity coefficients of all prepared samples were calculate after immersion in water and chemical solutions mentioned above , the results were showed that the Flexural, Impact & Hardness increase after addition the ceramic particles (AL2O3) while the immersion process results showed illustrated different values from sample to other.

Surface Treatment of Epoxy/Al Composite by Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) at Atmospheric Pressure

       In this study, the surface of the epoxy/Al composite is treated using a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma in the presence of air. The epoxy composite was prepared by mixing 0.1g and 0.3 g aluminum powder with epoxy resin and its hardener in a ratio of 3:1. The surface epoxy/Al composite as a dielectric barrier layer (DB) is studied at an applied frequency of 8 kHz and at three exposure times 0, 2, and 4 min. The UV degradation process has been studied using UV-Visible spectroscopy, for these polymers. The absorbance intensity in the UV region (200–320 nm) was high. Effect of Laser Shock Peening on the Fatigue Behavior and Mechanical Properties of Composite Materials

In this study, Laser Shock Peening (LSP) effect on the polymeric composite materials has been investigated experimentally. Polymeric composite materials are widely used because they are easy to fabricate and have many attractive features.
