Purification and Properties of β-Galactosidase From A Thermophilic Fungus Rhizmmucor Pusillus IB8.

An extracellular β-galactosidase from the thermophilic fungus Rhizomucor
Pusillus IB8 has been purified via several steps included precipitation by ammonium
sulphate at 80 % saturation, DEAE- Cellulose Ion exchange chromatography and gel filteration on sepharose CL-6B column. The Final purification folds and the yield of the enzyme were 42.5 and 24.8 % respectively. The purified β-galactosidase has an optimum pH for its activity between 4.5 to 5, while the optimum pH for enzyme stability was between 5 to 5.5. Futhermore, it was found that the optimum temperature for its activity was 60 C°. The purified enzyme retained approximatly 98% of its original activity when incubated at 60 C° for 60 min. However, 25 % of its activity was lost when incubated for 120 min at the same tmperaure. Activation energy for conversion of the substrate ONPG to products was 6.15 Kcal / mol, whereas, for enzyme denaturation it was 99.3 Kcal / mol. The molecular weight of the purified enzyme was 232000 dalton as determined by gel filtration on sepharose CL-6B. Kinetic studies showed that the Michaelis constant (Km) and maximum velocity (Vmax) values for the purified enzyme using ONPG as a substrate were 0.46 mM and 223 μM /min respectively.

Synthesis and Dielectric Properties of MgO:ZnO Composites

The dielectric properties of the fabricated composites MgO:ZnO with various mixing ratios (100,75:25,50:50,25:75, and 100 wt. %)were investigated. The structure analysis was conducted using X-ray diffraction. The structure phase, crystallite size and purity of the fabricated MgO:ZnO composites were confirmed using X-ray diffraction spectra. The results declared that the diffraction spectrum of 100%MgO composite samples were compatible with cubic structure along the plane (200) while the structures of residual composite's samples were compatible with hexagonal structures. The crystal size of the most pronounced plane (101) for crystal growth was changed from 30.4 nm to 53.2 nm by increasing ZnO ratio from 25 to 100wt%. The diel

The Use of Off-label and Unlicensed Drugs for Neonates: A Report from a Teaching Hospital in Baghdad

Background: Neonates who are admitted to hospitals will need various drugs. The use of unlicensed or off-label drugs without scientific evidence makes this exposure unsafe.

Aim of study: We aimed to assess the use of drugs for neonates based on the British National Formulary for Children and IBM Micromedex Neofax.

Patients and methods: This is a descriptive study which reviewed the clinical files of enrolled neonates who have stayed in the hospital for more than 24 hours and received at least one drug. It was conducted in the neonatal care unit of the Children Welfare Teaching Hospital/ Medical City Complex in Baghdad during the period from 1st of January to 30th of June/20

A Study of Some Physical Properties for Binary System of Cyclohexane with n-decane and 1-pentanol at Different Temperatures

mixtures of cyclohexane + n-decane and cyclohexane + 1-pentanol have been measured at 298.15, 308.15, 318.15, and 328.15 K over the whole mole fraction range. From these results, excess molar volumes, VE , have been calculated and fitted to the Flory equations. The VE values are negative and positive over the whole mole fraction range and at all temperatures. The excess refractive indices nE and excess viscosities ?E have been calculated from experimental refractive indices and viscosity measurements at different temperature and fitted to the mixing rules equations and Heric – Coursey equation respectively to predict theoretical refractive indices, we found good agreement between them for binary mixtures in this study. The variation of th

Synthesis of Some New Bis- 2, 3-Dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one Derivatives from Dapsone Drug and Investigating their Liquid Crystalline Properties and Antibacterial Activities

During this paper, new Schiff's base derivatives [F1-F5] were prepared through the reaction of dapsone drug with different substituted benzaldehyde compounds. Schiff's bases were then converted into 2,3-dihyroquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives [F6-F10] through the reaction with 2-amino benzoic acid in ethanol. The synthesized compounds were identified by their physical properties using UV-Vis, FT-IR and 1H-NMR analyses. The liquid crystalline properties of some prepared compounds revealed smectic and nematic phases. Using two separate bacterial species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram -ve) and Staphylococcus  aureus<

Optical and Structural Properties of Titanium Dioxide Papered by DC Magneto-Sputtering as a NO2 Gas Sensor

In this work, a reactive DC magnetron sputtering technique was used to prepare TiO2 thin films. The variation in argon and oxygen gases mixing ratios (4:1, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:4) was used to achieve optimal properties for gas sensing. In addition, an analysis of the optical XRD properties of TiO2 thin films is presented. High-quality and uniform nanocrystalline films were obtained at a working gas pressure of 0.25 mbar and  1:4 (Ar/O2) gas mixture. The optical properties showed a transparent thin film with uniform adherence to the substrate. The average transmission of the TiO2 films deposited on the glass substrates was higher than 95% over the range of 400 to 800 nm.

Dielectrical and electrical properties of PVA-NaI composites

The electrical characteristics of polyvinyl alcohol PVA doped with different concentrations (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4wt%) of sodium  iodide NaI powder were studied. The films are prepared using solution casting technique, in order to investigate the effect of sodium iodide NaI additions on the electrical properties of PVA host. The D.C conductivity measured by measuring the D.C electrical resistance using the Keithly Electrometer type 616C, and for different temperatures ranging from 30 – 70oC.

The dielectric properties measured by measuring the capacitor and the loss

A Study of Drinking Water Properties in Some Hospitals in Baghdad City

One of the bigger problems in drinking water is disinfection by-products (DBPs) that come from chlorinated disinfection. This study’s goal was to evaluate the drinking water in Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Ibn Sina Hospital and Ibn-Al-Nafis Hospital.  Samples were collected between October 2018 and September 2019. Physical and chemical characteristics of the water were studied, including (temperature, hydrogen ion (pH), total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, free residual chlorine, total organic carbon (TOC), total trihalomethanes (THMs), total halo acetic acid (THAAs)). Data analysis showed the highest value of study temperatu
