in vitro evaluation of inhibitory activity of enteric Bifidobacterium isolates against Shiga toxin producing E.coli (STEC)O157:H7

Six Bifidobacterium isolates, isolated from breast – feed infant faces on reduced de Man Rogosa and Sharp medium (MRS - C). Isolates identified to species level on the basis of : microscopical properties, biochemical tests, fructose-6-phosphate phosphoketolase enzyme(F6PPK) activity and carbohydrates fermentation profile. Results showed that B. adolescentis was the predominant species (B4,B5and B6),the other species were B. breve(B3),B. longum (B1), B. dentium(B2).
Strains were screened for their inhibitory effects against pathogenic bacteria shiga toxin producing E.coli(STEC)O157:H7 using agar – well diffusion method.B3 and B6 showed clear inhibitory actions toward STEC,22 mm and 15 mm diameter of inhibition zone srespectively. While the rest of isolates did not pronouncedany inhibitory activities. This indicate that the efficiency of probiotic bacterial strain specially Bifidobacterium spp. as antibacterial factor to treat or reduce bloody diarrhea and hemorrhagic urinary syndrome (HUS) as symptom of (STEC) infection .

Determination of Antimicrobial Activity of Thuja orientalis Against Some Pathogenic Microorganisms

The present study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial activity of the hot water and the hot ethanolic extracts of Thuja orientalis against some pathogenic microorganisms (Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Eschericha coli, Proteus mirrablis, Salmonilla typhi, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilus, Acinobacter, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans). In-vivo and In-vitro Anti-Acinetobacter Baumannii Activity of Citrate-Capped Silver Nanoparticles

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are of potential interest because of their effective antibacterial and antiviral activities. Capping agents are used for exhibiting a better antibacterial activity than uncapped Ag NPs. There are very few reports that have shown the usage of AgNPs for in-vivo antibacterial therapy. Citrate-capped silver nanoparticles were synthesized chemically by citrate reduction method; the size of Cit-AgNPs was determined by an atomic force microscope (AFM) and was between 15-90 nm. Genetic Assessment of Antibiotic Resistance in Salmonella Enteric a Serovar Typhi in Kirkuk Province

Around fifty isolates of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi were isolated from blood specimens of patients referring to several hospitals in Kirkuk province, Iraq. The results revealed that all isolates developed resistance to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and chloramphenicol. However, neither sul2 nor tem genes were detected. Moreover, only ten isolates were positive for catP. Our data suggested participation of other genes or mechanisms allow these multidrug isolates to resist the antibiotics in question.
