Radionuclides content and the radiological hazard of sediment of the Euphrates River and sprigs-western Iraq
...Show More Authors

Sediments samples from ten stations along the Euphrates River and seven
samples from selected springs within Al –Anbar governorate, (western part of Iraq),
were collected and analyzed for radioactivity. Sediments samples were dried at 100
ºC for 24 hours. Radioactivity in 1 kg of each sample was measured using gamma
spectrometer system based on a pure germanium detector with efficiency 30%. The
activity of Ra-226, Th-232, K-40 were measured to be within the typical average of
the radioactivity in sediment in world rivers, while relatively elevated concentration
were found in the sediment of some of the studied spring. In current study activity
concentrations of Cs-137 in the sediments were detected which may be caused by
the global fallout as well as caused by transferring of cesium from the relatively high
concentration areas in western desert by the rainwater within the valleys to the
sediments of the Euphrates. The radiological aspects were investigated by
calculating the radiological hazard indices such as absorbed dose rate, annual
effective dose equivalent, hazard indices and gamma index. The radiological hazard
indices were below the recommended international values. Ra-226 and Cs-137
concentrations in water and radiation doses due to drink water of the Euphrates
River were estimated. The maximum estimated interior doses which caused by 137Cs
and 226Ra in water were found to be 1.93 x 10-5mSv/y and 4.01x10-3mSv/y,
respectively.

Detection of Subsurface Cavities by Using Pole- Dipole Array (Bristow's Method)/Hit Area-Western Iraq
...Show More Authors

The study area is located within the Hit area, western Iraq. The measurements of Graphical Bristow’s method were carried out by using Pole-dipole array, to delineate the anomaly of apparent resistivity caused by a known cavity target. The survey was applied along two traverses: traverse in W-E direction and traverse in S-N direction above Um El-Githoaa cavity. Data interpretation of the traverse trending W-E, with a-spacing equal to(2m)identified the anomaly of the cavity at a depth of (2.6m), (1.6m) height, and( 9.5m) width, while the actual dimensions of depth, height, and width were (3.80m),( 2.2m), and (12.30m) respectively, with variations of depth equal to (1.2m), high (0.8m), and width( 2.8m). The data interpretation with a-spac

Using Sonic Log to Predict Abnormal Pressure Zones in Selected Oil Wells (Western of Iraq)
...Show More Authors

Two oil wells were tested to find the abnormal pressure zones using sonic log technique. We found that well Abu-Jir-3 and Abu-Jir-5 had an abnormal pressure zones from depth 4340 to 4520 feet and 4200 to 4600 feet, respectively. The maximum difference between obtained results and the field measured results did not exceed 2.4%.
In this paper, the formation pressures were expressed in terms of pressure gradient which sometimes reached up to twice the normal pressure gradient.
Drilling and developing such formations were dangerous and expensive.
The plotted figures showed a clear derivation from the normal trend which confirmed the existence of abnormal pressure zones.

Delineation of K-3 Cavity Using 2D Imaging Resistivity Technique in Haditha Area (Western Iraq)
...Show More Authors

The 2D imaging survey was conducted across an unknown K- 3 cavity that is located in Haditha area-Western Iraq.2D measurements are collected along two intercrossing traverses above the cavity with 105m length of each one. Dipole-dipole array is performed with n-factor of 6 and a-spacing equals to 5m. The inverse models of 2D imaging technique showed clearly that the resistivity contrast between the anomalous part of cavity and background resistivity of rocks is about 800:100 Ωm .In addition, the invers models showed that the depth from ground surface to the upper roof of cavity approximately equals to 11m near the cavity operator. So, the K-3 cavity is well defined from 2D imaging with Dipole –dipole array in comparison with the actua

Water drainage pattern in the rivers and changed the nature of the renewed feeding areas
in the basin in terms of topographic and geological conditions and climate in addition to the
human role in organizing the process flow within these basins. This study addressed the
development of the Tigris River Hydrological in the city of Baghdad and found that the
annual rate of water drainage in the Tigris River was driven down very significantly,
especially in the past twenty years, and since 1996 up to 2014 record flow rates of less than
the overall rate of discharge of water, a (950 m3 / s ), in addition to the quarterly decrease the
discharge rates, especially since the beginning of the year 2000 and took converge all fo

Effect of the AgO content on the surface morphology and electrical properties of SnO2 thin films prepared by PLD technique
...Show More Authors

Tin dioxide doped silver oxide thin films with different x content (0, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07) have been prepared by pulse laser deposition technique (PLD) at room temperatures (RT). The effect of doping concentration on the structural and electrical properties of the films were studied. Atomic Force Measurement (AFM) measurements found that the average value of grain size for all films at RT decrease with increasing of AgO content. While an average roughness values increase with increasing x content. The electrical properties of these films were studied with different x content. The D.C conductivity for all films increases with increasing x content. Also, it found that activation energies decrease with increasing of AgO content for all films.
