Numerical Simulation of Metasurface Grating to Function as Polarization Modulator in Quantum Key Distribution Systems

Polarization modulation plays an important role in polarization encoding in quantum key distribution. By using polarization modulation, quantum key distribution systems become more compact and more vulnerable as one laser source is used instead of using multiple laser sources that may cause side-channel attacks. Metasurfaces with their exceptional optical properties have led to the development of versatile ultrathin optical devices. They are made up of planar arrays of resonant or nearly resonant subwavelength pieces and provide complete control over reflected and transmitted electromagnetic waves opening several possibilities for the development of innovative optical components. In this work, the Si nanowire metasurface grating polarizer is designed by COMSOL Multiphysics Software to operate in the visible region and transmit the transverse magnetic polarization of light. The same structure can be rotated by different angles, i.e., 90o, 45o, and -45o to mimic the function of polarization modulation in quantum key distribution systems. The designed structure has an extinction ratio of ~ 60000 and a wide angular tolerance range of (-20o - 20o).

Asphaltene Precipitation Modeling of Sadi Formation in Halfaya Iraqi Oil Field

Asphaltene is a component class that may precipitate from petroleum as a highly viscous and sticky material that is likely to cause deposition problems in a reservoir, in production well, transportation, and in process plants. It is more important to locate the asphaltene precipitation conditions (precipitation pressure and temperature) before the occurring problem of asphaltene deposition to prevent it and eliminate the burden of high treatment costs of this problem if it happens. There are different models which are used in this flow assurance problem (asphaltene precipitation and deposition problem) and these models depend on experimental testing of asphaltene properties. In this study, the used model was equation of

Formulation and Evaluation of Silymarin Microcrystals by In- Situ Micronization Technique

Silymarin (SM) is a plant extract obtained from Silybum marianum( milk thistle) . It is class II type drug according to  Biopharmaceutics Classification System with low bioavailability due to its low solubility.

Micro/nanonization during crystallization, surface modification and crystal structure modification may improve the dissolution rate of poorly water-soluble drugs.

The aim of this study was to increase the water solubility and dissolution rate of SM by in-situ micronization using solvent change either by stirring or ultrasonic method. Stabilizers like Gelatin, PVP-K30, HPMC15, Pulullan were used to stabilize the prepared ultrafine crystals. Effect of type and concentration of hydrophilic polymer, solv

Serum Concentration of Molybdenum in Chronic Renal Failure Patients Requiring Hemodialysis

Background: High serum molybdenum level may contribute to dialysis related bone disease in patients requiring long term hemodialysis in fact massive molybdenum accumulation causes joint deformity and arthritis
Objective: To asses the level of molybdenum in uremic patients requiring long term hemodialysis and impact of hemodialysis on the serum level of molybdenum before and after hemodialysis
Patients and methods: Eighty patients complain from chronic renal failure on long term hemodialysis aged (16 to 65) years, serum molybdenum was measured before and after hemodialysis
Result: The mean serum molybdenum level in 80 patients requiring long term hemodialysis was elevated before dialysis (0.29 + 0.17 nmol/mL) and even after dialy

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy In Morbid Obesity: Early Results Of 240 Patients

Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is becoming one of the most common procedures performed for the treatment of morbidly obese patients in the last few years until now.
Objectives: This type of surgery needs to be evaluated regarding the various techniques used and the possible post-operative complications with the exact methods of treating them.
Patients and methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 240 consecutive morbidly obese patients over a period of 3 years (Feb 2011- Mar 2013) in the Saint Raphael Centre of morbid obesity with an average patient body mass index of 45 (35 - 61). They all underwent LSG, and the decreased weight resulting from surgery was analyzed regarding early and late complications. In 40 of

Spectrophotometric Determination of Carbofuran with Diazotized Benzidine in Environmental Water Samples

A simple, rapid, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determing carbamate pesticides in both pure and water samples. The method is appropriate for the determination of carbofuran in the presence of other ingredients that are usually available in dosage forms. The effect of organic solvents on the spectrophotometric properties of the azo dye and the structure of the resulting product have also been worked out and it is found to be 1:1 benzidine :carbofuran. The method can be successfully applied to determination of carbofuran in water samples. The method is based on diazotization of Benzidine (4, 4 – diamino biphenyl) with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid followed by coupling with carbofuran

Morphological, Molecular and Pollen Grain Investigations of Salix Species in Egypt

Genus Salix is among family Salicaceae, distributing in the northern hemisphere. It is represented in Egypt by two species (Salix mucronata and Salix tetrasperma). The classification of Salix at the generic and infra-generic levels is still outstanding. We have agreed to list the Egyptian species of this genus. We collected them during field trips to most Egyptian habitats; fresh and herbarium specimens were subjected to taxonomic revision based on morphological characters; scanning electron microscope (SEM) for pollen grains; isozyme analysis using esterase and peroxidase enzymes and genetic diversity using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). We recorded that both sexes of S.

Evaluation of Internal Control Activities and their Role in Administrative Decisions

The current research aims to verify the relationship and impact of internal control activities as an independent variable in its dimensions (efficiency, training, independence) in making administrative decisions as a responsive variable and its dimensions (identifying and diagnosing the problem, searching for alternatives, evaluating alternatives, choosing the appropriate alternative, implementing the decision, following up Decision and evaluation) in the Kirkuk Water Directorate, as well as to identify the levels of their practices, and then try to come up with a number of recommendations contribute to the strengthening of internal control activities and the process of making administrative decisions of the researched Directorat

Peristaltic Flow of the Bingham Plastic Fluid in a Curved Channel

In this paper, we study the peristaltic transport of incompressible Bingham plastic fluid in a curved channel. The formulation of the problem is presented through, the regular perturbation technique for small values of  is used to find the final expression of stream function. The numerical solution of pressure rise per wave length is obtained through numerical integration because its analytical solution is impossible. Also the trapping phenomenon is analyzed. The effect of the variation of the physical parameters of the problem are discussed and illustrated graphically.
