PDF Photodynamic effect of Rose Bengal activated by low-level laser light on S. aureus : Qusay K. Abbas*, Layla M. Hassan

Abstract: Background: Staphylococcus aureus is Gram-positive bacteria that lives as a normal flora in living organisms but can be pathogenic to humans. Although a relatively unspectacular, nonmotile coccoid bacterium, S. aureus is a dangerous human pathogen in both community-acquired and nosocomial infections. Due to the increasing emergence of new strains of this antibiotic-resistant bacteria, it has become essential to approach different methods to control this pathogen. One of these methods is the antimicrobial photodynamic inactivation process using a low-level laser, in this paper, the Photodynamic effects of Rose Bengal and LLLL on the virulence factors of S.aureus were evaluated. The aim of the study The present study aims to evaluate the Photodynamic effects on S. aureus using laser irradiation and Rose Bengal as an external photosensitizer. Methods: sixty  samples from sputum were taken. Then ten  isolated from these samples were chosen to be under the study, where RB was used at a concentatin of 100 μg/ml that is activated by diode laser (532 nm) with power density of 1 W/m2and exposure time (1, 2& 3) minute. Results: show that there is no effect on the inhibition of virulence factors except at the last minute, that is, the virulence factors decrease at the third minute only in the absence of a photosensitizer agent, while there is a direct effect of activated Rose Bengal on S. aureus isolated from the sputum of Iraqi patients with pneumonia, where all times of exposure of (RB + 532 nm) were effect on the virulence factors by inhibiting it. Conclusions: show that the diode laser of 532 nm has no effect on the virulence factor of S. aureus isolated from sputum except at the third minute, while RB activated by diode laser (532 nm) have an effective action on all virulence factors of S. aureus isolated from  sputum at all times of exposure, accordingly, it was concluded that when using a laser diode alone, the bacterial viability decreases at the third minute only, While when using Rose Bengal activated by a diode laser, the viability of bacteria is reduced at all times of exposure.

The Level of Psychological Burnout among University Professors in Light of Armed Conflicts in Yemen: Center for Political and Strategic Studies - Sana'a University - Yemen

The research aims to identify the level of psychological burnout among the professors of Sana’a University in light of the armed conflicts in Yemen. The research sample consisted of (104) faculty members. A descriptive-analytical approach was adopted. The results of the research showed that university professors suffer from psychological burnout at a very high level in the overall score of the scale. There were no statistically significant differences in terms of gender, academic degree, teaching experience, marital status, number of family members, or salary. In light of the results, the researcher presented a number of relevant recommendations and suggestions.

The effect of triggering on the output performance of diode direct face pumping for disc laser in pulse mode

The triggering effect for the face pumping of Nd:YVO4 disc medium of 4×5×0.5 mm was investigated using bulk diode laser at different resonator cavity length in pulse mode and at repetition rate of 1.3kHz. The maximum emitted peak power was found to be 100, 82, and 66 mW for resonator lengths of 10, 13.5, and 17.5 cm respectively, while the threshold pumping power was found to be 41mW. The maximum emitted peak power obtained was 300 mW when using external triggering and 10cm length, with repetition of 3Hz.

Effect of the Pulsed Laser Energy on the Properties of CdO: NiO Composite Thin Films for Solar Cell Applications

     In this work, thin films of cadmium oxide: nickel oxide (CdO: NiO) were prepared by pulsed laser deposition at different pulse energies of Nd: YAG laser. The thin films' properties were determined by various techniques to study the effect of pulse laser energy on thin films' properties. X-ray diffraction measurements showed a mixture of both phases. Comparison Study of Adsorption of Lead and Methylene Blue on Zeolite, Activated Carbon and Their Composite Materials

In this study, composite materials consisting of Activated Carbon (AC) and Zeolite were prepared for application in the removal of methylene blue and lead from an aqueous solution. The optimum synthesis method involves the use of metakaolinization and zeolitization, in the presence of activated carbon from kaolin, to form Zeolite. First, Kaolin was thermally activated into amorphous kaolin (metakaolinization); then the resultant metakaolin was attacked by alkaline, transforming it into crystalline zeolite (zeolitization). Using nitrogen adsorption and SEM techniques, the examination and characterization of composite materials confirmed the presence of a homogenous distribution of Zeolite throughout the activated carbon.
