Effects of Ho: YAG Laser (2100nm) in Prostate Tissue: An in vitro Study

Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), non-cancerous enlargement of prostate, is the most prevalent disease entity in elderly men. BPH affects 40% of men after the age of 60year worldwide. BPH causes problems for patients with significant lower urinary tract obstructive symptoms, if not responding to medical therapy, surgical intervention is instituted. One method of the treatment of symptomatic BPH is laser prostatectomy. The understanding of tissue effects by laser radiation is very important for the safe clinical application of laser. Objective: study the 2100 nm Ho: YAG laser gross tissue effects in the prostate at different laser dose settings in an vitro model prostate tissue samples harvested from same specimen of open surgery prostatectomy. Materials and methods: Specimen of same open surgery prostatectomy was sectioned into six samples preserved in 4% formalin solution. Laser irradiations were performed in ambient air at room temperature. Samples exposed to varying laser dose parameters using pulsed Ho: YAG laser. The laser settings consisted of energy per pulse (0.3, 0.5 and 1 J), and pulse repetition rate (10 and 25 Hz) in single or double pulse mode. Pulse duration was 350 μs. Laser radiation was delivered using laser fibers with an optical core diameter of 550 μm. Main evaluation criteria of the Ho::YAG laser performance in prostate tissue was made by visual gross appearance of the effects of incision, cutting, vaporization, ablation and coagulation properties. Results: high laser dose setting revealed ablation, vaporization, incision, and cutting performance. Also there was clear evidence of coagulation zone. There was no clear appearance of carbonization. Sometimes minimum carbonization effect noticed. Ablation of prostate tissue was achieved by low dose setting. High and Low settings were responsible for coagulation effect. Conclusion: different dose parameters including energy per pulse, pulse repetition rate and in single or double pulse mode provide an effective way for ablation, vaporization, incision, cutting and coagulation effects in the prostate tissue.

Effect of ureteric stone location on the success rate of ureteroscopic Holmium laser lithotripsy

Background: Ureteral stone can cause obstructive uropathy and subsequent deterioration of renal function. There are four treatment options for ureteral calculi: lithotripsy, ureteroscopy, laparoscopic ureterolithotomy, and open stone surgery. Holmium YAG laser is an excellent intracorporial lithotripter for all kinds of stones. Accordingly, there is steady increase in number of ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy operations in the managmant of Ureteral stone.

Objectives: this study was designed to demonstrate the effect of ureteric stone location on the success rate of ureteroscopic Holmium laser lithotripsy in the management of ureteric stones.

Patients and Methods: Ninety m

Evaluation of Amygdalin (B17) and Cucurbita pepo (Pumpkin seed) Activity Against Blastocystis from Diarrheic Patients in Baghdad, Iraq: in Vitro Study

Blastocystis is a ubiquitous human and animal protozoa that inhabit the gastrointestinal tract. Metronidazole is considered the standard drug for the treatment of Blastocystis infection; however, there is growing evidence of treatment failure, hazardous side effects, and appearance of strains resistant to metronidazole. In the last era, many studies have been implicated in the quest for new treatments for Blastocystis infection, especially natural products. Attention has been focused on the effect of Amygdalin (B17) and pumpkin seed on eradicating parasitic infections. The current work was built up to explore the in vitro efficacy of two natural compounds, Amygdalin (B17) and pumpkin seeds against

Positive images in the Holy Quran The story of Solomon - peace be upon him - in Surat An-Naml is a model An objective study

God Almighty put in his great book secrets that do not end, and wonders that do not expire, for he is the one from which the scholars are not satisfied, and he does not create due to the multitude of response, and it is the comprehensive and inhibitory book that God conceals to the worlds, and he challenged the two heavyweights to come up with something like it.

At all times, issues arise in the Noble Qur’an that fit the needs of the people of that time and their culture, for it is an eternal book, characterized by the ability to give, extend and respond to addressing the problems of the age and its variables, when the Arabs had little luck at the time of the message’s descent from the scientific culture, and their proficienc

The role of MIS in the negotiation process "An Analytical Study in a Sample of Iraqi Organizations"

Negotiation is considered as one of the most important kinds of communication in the contemporary organizations, which depend on the important role of managerial information systems in providing necessary and suitable information for success of the negotiation process.

Accordingly, this study aims at measuring the extent of the variables effect of managerial information system in the negotiation process.

To achieve this study, two hypotheses were chosen; the first is the correlation relation and the second is the effect, and statistical means represented by correlation coefficient "Spearman" and (R2) were used.

 A Number of conclusions were

Investigating the Antioxidant and Apoptosis Inducing Effects of Biologically Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles Against Lymphoma Cells in Vitro

The current study aimed to synthesize silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in a safe and eco-friendly biological method using green tea extract, characterize them using UV-vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, FESEM, and AFM tools, then investigate their antioxidant potentials against DPPH and their cytotoxicity toward lymphoma cells using MTT and ethidium bromide/propidium iodide dual staining assays, and their genotoxic capacities by assessing their effects on the gene expression of p53, caspase3, bcl-2, and bax genes by qPCR and DNA fragmentation.  Results confirmed the synthesis of silver nanoparticles; the UV-vis results showed a peak of absorbance at 414 nm; FTIR analysis showed absorbance bel

The Effect of Acidity Level on Ions Released and Corrosion of Metal Orthodontic Appliances at Different Time Intervals (An In vitro Study)

ABSTRACT Background: This study measured the effects of three parameters pH value, length of immersion and type of archwire on metal ions released from orthodontic appliances. Materials and Methods: Ninety maxillary halves simulated fixed orthodontic appliances that were immersed in artificial saliva of different pH values (6.75, 5 and 3.5) during 28 day period. Three types of archwires were used: stainless steel, nickel titanium and thermal activated nickel titanium. The quantity of nickel and chromium ions was determined with the use of atomic force spectrophotometer while iron ions by spectrophotometer. Each orthodontic set was weighted two times, before the ligation and immersion in the artificial saliva and after 28 days at the end of

An Evaluation of Some Mechanical Properties of Autopolymerizing Acrylic Resin with the Modified One after Changing the Curing Environment: (In vitro Study)

Background: Studying and investigating the transverse strength(Ts), impact strength(Is), hardness (Hr) and surface roughness(Ra) of conventional and modified autopolymerizing acrylic resin with different weight percentages of biopolymer kraftlignin, after curing in different water temperatures; 40°C and 80°C. Material and Methods: Standard acrylic specimens were fabricated according to ADA specification No.12 for transverse strength, ISO 179 was used for impact testing, Shore D for hardness and profilometerfor surface roughness. The material lignin first dispersed in the monomer, then the powder PMMA is immediately added. Ligninadded in different weight percentages. Then cured using pressure pot (Ivomet) in two temperatures;40°C a
