Experimental influence assessments of water drive and gas breakthrough through the CO2-assisted gravity drainage process in reservoirs with strong aquifers
...Show More Authors

Mature oil reservoirs surrounded with strong edge and bottom water drive aquifers experience pressure depletion and water coning/cresting. This laboratory research investigated the effects of bottom water drive and gas breakthrough on immiscible CO2-Assisted Gravity Drainage (CO2-AGD), focusing on substantial bottom water drive. The CO2-AGD method vertically separates the injected CO2 to formulate a gas cap and Oil. Visual experimental evaluation of CO2-AGD process performance was performed using a Hele-Shaw model. Water-wet sand was used for the experiments. The gas used for injection was pure CO2, and the “oleic” phase was n-decane with a negative spreading coefficient. The aqueous phase was deionized water. To evaluate the feasibility of the CO2-AGD process without any bottom water drives, it was first used. The experimental results demonstrated that existence of bottom water drive affected oil recoveries due to pressure support. Oil recovery before gas breakthrough increases proportionally with bottom water drive intensity. The gas breakthrough time recoveries for CO2-AGD1, CO2-AGD2, and CO2-AGD3 runs were 38.68%, 50.70%, and 60.85% of OOIP. The pressure gradient along the physical model decreases as bottom water drive intensity increases. The CO2-AGD approach delayed gas breakout by 72 min. As aquifer strength increases, gas breakthrough is delayed. In the three CO2-AGD runs and after breakthrough occurrence, the injector-producer pressure difference decreased due to the residual heads of oil and water columns above the horizontal well. As long as oil and water exist in the model, the pressure differential will not be zero, and the relative permeability and capillary trapping also control this phenomenon. Finally, it was demonstrated that there is a direct correlation between the strength of the aquifer and the oil recovery factor. The strength of the aquifer positively affects the oil recovery at breakthrough and the ultimate oil recovery.

The speed, reflection and intensity of waves propagating in flexible tubes with aneurysm and stenosis: Experimental investigation
...Show More Authors

A localized stenosis or aneurysm is a discontinuity that presents the pulse wave produced by the contracting heart with a reflection site. However, neither wave speed ( c) in these discontinuities nor the size of reflection in relation to the size of the discontinuity has been adequately studied before. Therefore, the aim of this work is to study the propagation of waves traversing flexible tubes in the presence of aneurysm and stenosis in vitro. We manufactured different sized four stenosis and four aneurysm silicone sections, connected one at a time to a flexible ‘mother’ tube, at the inlet of which a single semi-sinusoidal wave was generated. Pressure and velocity were measured simultaneously 25 cm downstream the inlet of th

Measurement of radon gas concentration in water and soil samples in AL-Najaf governorate by using nuclear track detector (CR-39)
...Show More Authors

The radon gas concentration in environmental samples soil and water of selected regions in Al-Najaf governorate was measured by using alpha-emitters registrations which are emitted form radon gas in (CR-39) nuclear track detector. The first part is concerned with the determination of radon gas concentration in soil samples, results of measurements indicate that the highest average radon concentration in soil samples was found in (Al-Moalmen) region which was (100.0±7.0 Bq/m3), while the lowest average radon concentration was found in (Al-Askary) region which was (38.5±4.7 Bq/m3), with an average value of (64.23±14.9 Bq/m3) ,the results show that the radon gas concentrations in soil is below the allowed limit from (ICRP) agency which is (

Improving the Recovery of Hydrocarbons in a Well in the Gullfaks Field by Injecting Sequestrated CO2
...Show More Authors

The Gullfaks field was discovered in 1978 in the Tampen area of the North Sea and it is one of the largest Norwegian oil fields located in Block 34/10 along the western flank of the Viking Graben in the northern North Sea. The Gullfaks field came on stream in 1986 and reached a peak of production in 2001. After some years, a decrease in production was noticed due to the decrease in pressure in the well. The goal of this paper is to improve the production of a well located in Gullfaks field by injecting CO2 through coiled tubing. The use of the CO2 injection method is due to the fact that it is a greenhouse gas, and its production in the atmosphere contributes to global warming. It is important to reduce its emission

Influence of heat transfer on Magneto hydrodynamics oscillatory flow for Williamson fluid through a porous medium
...Show More Authors

In this paper, we have examined the influence of heat- transfer on the magnetohydrodynamics oscillatory flow of Williamson fluid during porous medium for two types of geometries "Poiseuille flow and Couette flow". We use perturbation technique in terms of the Weissenberg number to obtain explicit forms for velocity profiles. The results that obtained are illustrated by graphs.

Investigating the Mastering of the Pronunciation of Weak and Strong Forms of English Function Words
...Show More Authors

The weak and strong forms are so called because it is not their lexical content that primary matter, but the role they have in the sentence. The problematic confusion, our students encounter, in recognizing and producing the correct pronunciation of weak and strong forms of the English function words is the main incentive behind conducting  this study. In order to gather the data, this paper used two types of tests: a recognition test and a production test. The general results reached  through the analysis of the students' answers seem to conform to the researcher's assumption: students face a critical problem in recognizing and producing correct pronunciation of the weak and strong forms of the English funct

Quantitative Interpretation of Gravity and Magnetic Anomalies in West of Tikrit City and Surroundings, Iraq
...Show More Authors

A quantitative interpretation of gravity and magnetic anomalies in west of Tikrit city and surroundings, has been completed utilizing Grav2dc and Mag2dc (2D, 2.5D) forward techniques. The modeling has been carried out along four profiles, two NW-SE profiles along the distinct gravity residual anomalies and two NE-SW profiles along the magnetic residual anomalies. The most geologic plausible model that matches the data was picked. The model along the gravity profile (A-A') reveal faulting of the basement, whereas along the profiles B-B', C-C' and D-D' did not present faulting. The models comprise of two rock units, the first is the sedimentary cover and the second unit i
