Metabolic Syndrome; Comparing the Results of Three Definition Criteria in an Iraqi Sample
...Show More Authors

Background: Different diagnostic definition and criteria have been recommended by different expert groups for the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome, however, it’s prevalence in the same population could differ depending on the definition used yielding different results. In Iraq, there is a lack of research comparing these different diagnostic definitions. Objective: To find out the most suitable metabolic syndrome definition to be used for Iraqi people.  Methods: 320 participants were recruited for this study, 53.4% men and 46.6% women, aged between 25-85 years, visiting Baghdad Teaching Hospital, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome according to different definitions were compared and the agreement was assessed by the Kappa statistic. Results: Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed in 37.8%, 40.6% and 46.9% participants respectively for the National Cholesterol Education Programme Adult Treatment Panel III 2005, International Diabetes Federation 2005 and the recently (2009) revised International Diabetes Federation definition. The prevalence was higher in women than in men, independent of the criteria used. The Kappa statistics suggested that the agreement between the three definitions ranged from good-to-very good, Conclusion: Metabolic syndrome was high in this Iraqi cohort regardless of the definition used. The recently (2009) revised International Diabetes Federation definition may be more suitable in diagnosis of metabolic syndrome in Iraq.

Past Myocardial Infarctions and Gender Predict the LVEF Regardless of the Status of Coronary Collaterals: An AI-Informed Research
...Show More Authors

BACKGROUND: The degree of the development of coronary collaterals is long considered an alternate – that is, a collateral – source of blood supply to an area of the myocardium threatened with vascular ischemia or insufficiency. Hence, the coronary collaterals are beneficial but can also promote harmful (adverse) effects. For instance, the coronary steal effect during the myocardial hyperemia phase and that of restenosis following coronary angioplasty. OBJECTIVES: Our study explores the contribution of coronary collaterals – if any exist – while considering other potential predictors, including demographics and medical history, toward the left ventricular (LV) dysfunction measured through the LV ejection fraction (LVEF). Basmaya Residential Complex compatibility with the Iraqi Green Architecture Code
...Show More Authors

The increase in the Iraqi population put pressure on urban cities as there were no new cities built since the 1980s due to the wars and the economic blockade imposed in 1991 and the deteriorating security situation after 2003, where the population in 2018 reached about forty million people. Iraq also suffered during the past decades from problems and challenges in many respects that affected the local environment, and the constructed buildings had a role in increasing these impacts, so the Ministry of Housing worked to issue the Iraqi Green Architecture Code in 2019 to reduce damage to the environment and use resources more efficiently. And because the constructed buildings were not constructed according to green standards, including Bas

SMNs like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, WhatsApp,..etc. are among the most popular sites on the Internet. These sites can provide a powerful means of sharing, organizing, finding information and knowledge.
