Cysteine-cysteine chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5) is known to play an important role with immunoregulatory and inflammatory activities in the formation of granuloma during infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. About 90 subjects, involving 50 patients with pulmonary TB and 40 apparently healthy individuals (as a control group) were collected from primary health care center\AL-Sadur city sector/ Baghdad City/ Iraq, and at specialized chest and respiratory diseases center in Wassit City /Iraq during the period from January 2019 to May 2019. The study was carried out to investigate serum level of CCL-5 of both patients and control by using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and to determine the association between CCL5 genotypes with pulmonary tuberculosis susceptibility in Iraqi population. Genotyping analysis of CCL5 rs2107538 was performed by using amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS-PCR) method. The results revealed that serum levels of CCL-5 was significantly, (P ≤0.01) increased in pulmonary tuberculosis patients compared to control. The mean ±SE of CCL-5 level in PTB patients and controls were 455.40 ±25.35 ng/L and 80.86 ± 5.96 ng/L, respectively. Analysis of H-W equilibrium revealed that CCL-5 rs2107538 GG, GA and AA genotypes in TB patient group were not in agreement with the equilibrium and there was a significant variation (p ≤ 0.05) between the observed and expected frequencies. While control group showed an agreement with the equilibrium. At position rs2107538, CCL-5 GG genotype showed a significant increased level of CCL-5 (531.01 ± 23.03 ng/L) in PTB patients compared to GA genotype (305.28 ± 33.45 ng/L) and AA genotype (150.27 ± 11.60 ng/L) of the patients. This study suggest that CCL-5 could be considered as a good biomarker for diagnosis of PTB, while it exclude the CCL-5 rs2107538 as major risk factor for tuberculosis in the Iraqi population

... Show MoreThe aim of the currnet study to examine the effect of subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) in diabetic patients on coagulation parameters. This retrospective case–control study involves 130 patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), divided into 65 T2DM with newly diagnosed SCH and 65 euthyroid (EUT) T2DM patients without SCH. Fibrinogen (FIB) was significantly higher in SCH (508.2 ± 63.0 mg/dL) than EUT (428.1 ± 44.8 mg/dL). In the SCH patients, FIB correlated with several parameters, such as age (β = 0.396), body mass index (β = 0.578), glycated hemoglobin (β = 0.281), and activated partial thromboplastin time (β = 0.276). In conclusion SCH in DM patients appears to increase the magnitude of coagulopathy.

Background: Direct measurement of intracellular magnesium using erythrocytes has been suggested as a sensitive indicator for the estimation of body magnesium store. Marked depletion in plasma and erythrocyte magnesium levels was particularly evident in diabetic patients with advanced retinopathy and poor diabetic control. While insulin has been shown to stimulate erythrocyte magnesium uptake, hyperglycemia per se suppressed intracellular magnesium in normal human red cells.

The two parameters (α, λ), (Scale parameters and Shape parameters) are estimated by LSE, WLSE and the Best Estimator’s for various samples sizes are used to find the ratio of true mean time to a pre-determined, and are used to find the smallest possible sample size required to ensure the producer’s risks, with a pre-fixed probability (1 - P*). Coral reef area in northwest of the Arabian Gulf was investigated for mineralogy and geochemistry to throw lights on such unique Iraqi Marine Environment; six specimens of two main species of coral reefs, Platygyra pini Chevalier, 1975 and Octocoral Menella were collected at two sites. While eight samples of the surrounding sediments are chosen from other two sites. The mineralogy is determined by XRD, and reveals that calcite, low magnesium-calcite, and aragonite are the main minerals that comprise the Octocoral Menella in site 1, whilst aragonite and calcite are dominate in the P. pini coral reef at site 4.
