This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial effect of Cinnamomum verum ethanolic extract against Proteus mirabilisisolated from the oral cavities of humans and dogs. Fifty samples, collected from both humans and dogs, corresponding to isolates obtained using the primary and VITEK 2 systems, yielded eight isolates that were positive for P. mirabilis. Different doses of the Cinnamomum verum extract were evaluated against the isolated P. mirabilis cultures, ranging from 125 to 2000 micrograms. Significant results were observed starting from 500 micrograms, yielding a 19 mm zone of inhibition. Forty one isolates of genus Proteus were collected from 140 clinical specimens such as urine, stool, wound, burn, and ear swabs from patients of both sex. n this study, 25 clinical isolates of Proteus spp. were collected from urine, wounds and burns specimens from different hospitals in Baghdad city, all isolates were identified by using different bacteriological media, biochemical assays and Vitek-2 system. Proteus mirabilis ? -lactamase of local isolates number 4TF represent karkh side and 20TF represent rusafa side of Baghdad were extracted and purified 23.17, 25.23 fold with yield of 36.66 %, 37.5% and specific activity 11.8, 12.6 of unit/ mg protein by DEAE –cellulose and Sepharose 4B (respectively ).Molecular weight of both enzyme was about 35500 Dalton determined by gel filtration.
