COWPEA NODULATION AND NITROGEN FIXATION UNDER POTYVIRUS AND RHIZOBIUM COINCIDENCE

The present study aimed to assess the impact of seed Rhizobia treatment and potyvirus inoculation on bacterial nodulation and nitrogen fixation in cowpeas. The plants were infected with the virus two weeks post-germination. Nodules were present on the roots of plants treated with Rhizobia; however, almost no nodules were detected on untreated plants. The average number of nodules per plant on virus-inoculated plants was significantly lower than the average number per noninoculated plant. The virus caused a substantial decrease in the weight of nodules also. The study revealed that the presence of Rhizobia resulted in a significant rise in nitrogen content in the foliage. Specifically, the nitrogen percentage increased from 1.29% in plants not treated with Rhizobia and not inoculated by the virus to 2.502% in Rhizobia-treated plants that were inoculated by the virus and to 2.550% in Rhizobia-treated plants that were not inoculated by the virus. This difference was statistically significant at a p-value less than 0.05. The virus resulted in a rise in nitrogen content in plants that were not inoculated with Rhizobia. The Rhizobia resulted in a significant augmentation in the number of pods per plant, seed count per plant, and seed dry weight per plant compared to plants that were not treated with Rhizobia. The application of Rhizobia to virus-inoculated plants resulted in a notable enhancement of these parameters, except for the nitrogen content in seeds

Flexural Behavior of Composite GFRP Pultruded I-Section Beams under Static and Impact Loading

In this study, the effect of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) section and compressive strength of concrete in composite beams under static and low velocity impact loads was examined. Modeling was performed and the obtained results were compared with the test results and their compatibility was evaluated.‎ Experimental tests of four composite beams were carried out, where two of them are control specimen with 20 MPa compressive strength of concrete deck slab and 50 MPa for other. Bending characteristics were affected by the strength of concrete under impact loading case, as it increased maximum impact force and damping time at a ratio of 59% and reduced the damping ratio by 47% compared to the reference hybrid beam. Under stat

COMPARISON OF ALFALFA WEEVIL POPULATIONS UNDER EPIZOOTIC AND ENZOOTIC CONDITIONS OF ERYNIAPHYTONOMI IN WISCONSIN

Comparisons of two life tables constructed to display alfaifa weevil Hypera posticoa (Gryllenhal), populations in southeentral Wisconsin, U. S. A. under epizootic and enzootic conditions of fungal diseasea, caused by Erynia phytonomi Arthur suggests that the “prepupal” stage provided the greates contribution to population changes under both conditions due to the high mortality rate. The principle mortality agents during this stage are E. phytonomi and the parasitoids complex of Bathyp1ectes curculionis and Buthyp1ectes anurus respectively under the two condition.

Behavior of Reinforced Reactive Powder Concrete Two-Way Slabs under Static and Repeated Load

This paper studies the behavior of reinforced Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) two-way slabs under static and repeated load. The experimental program included testing six simply supported RPC two-way slabs of 1000 mm length, 1000 mm width, and 70 mm thickness. All the tested specimens were identical in their material properties, and reinforcement details except their steel fibers content. They were cast in three pairs, each one had a different steel fibers ratio (0.5 %, 1 %, and 1.5 %) respectively. In each pair, one specimen was tested under static load and the other under five cycles of repeated load (loading-unloading). Static test results revealed that increasing steel fibres volume fraction from 0.5 % to 1 % and from 1% to 1.5%,

Path Coefficient Analyses for Growth and Yield Traits of Barley Under Different Seeding Rates
Abstract<p>The purpose of this experiment was to determine the relationship between the path coefficient and seed rate for four different barley cultivars (Amal, Ibaa 265, Ibaa 99, and Buhooth 244) during the 2019-2020 winter season. The experiment was carried out using a split plot design with three replications according to a randomized complete block design (RCBD). The highest positive thru effect on grain yield was found for flag leaf area and harvest index at aseeding rate of 130 kg.h-1; the highest positive direct effect on grain yield was found for flag leaf area and plant height at aseeding rate of 160 kg.h-1; and the highest positive direct effe</p> ... Local Scale Displacement Fields in Grains–Structure Interactions Under Cyclic Loading: Experiments and Simulations
Abstract<p>Soils encounter cyclic loading conditions in situ, for example during the earthquakes and in the construction sequences of pavements. Investigations on the local scale displacements of the soil grain and their failure patterns under the cyclic loading conditions are relatively scarce in the literature. In this study, the local displacement fields of a dense sand layer interacting with a rigid footing under the plane-strain condition are examined using both experiments and simulations. Three commonly used types of cyclic loading conditions were applied on the footing. Digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) is used to measure the local scale displacement fields in the soil, and to understand the ev</p> ... Show More

Evaluation of Anemia among Lactating Mothers and their Children Under Two Years of Age

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate anemia among lactating women and their children less than 2 years of
age.
Methodology: The study was done on (148) lactating mothers and their children under 2 years of age in the primary
health care center at AL-Salam Quarter/Baghdad from l/10/2009 to 15/10/2010.
Result: This study recommends that there is a significant relationship between anemic mothers and their children. The
study also revealed that there is (77.8%) from nursing mothers in the age groups (25-29) who suffered from anemia,
while (23.1%) for the age group (20-24) did not have anemia
Recommendation: We encourage the use of breast milk or iron-fortified infant formula only for any milk-based part

Dynamic Response and Reliability Analysis of Stochastic Multi-Story Frame Structures under Random Excitation

In earthquake engineering problems, uncertainty exists not only in the seismic excitations but also in the structure's parameters. This study investigates the influence of structural geometry, elastic modulus, mass density, and section dimension uncertainty on the stochastic earthquake response of a multi-story moment resisting frame subjected to random ground motion. The North-south component of the Ali Gharbi earthquake in 2012, Iraq, is selected as ground excitation. Using the power spectral density function (PSD), the two-dimensional finite element model of the moment resisting frame's base motion is modified to account for random ground motion. The probabilistic study of the moment resisting frame structure using stochastic fin

Fully Automated Measurement Setup for Photovoltaic Panel Performance Evaluation and Testing under LabVIEW Platform

Photovoltaic (PV) devices are widely used renewable energy resources and have been increasingly manufactured by many firms and trademarks. This condition makes the selection of right product difficult and requires the development of a fast, accurate and easy setup that can be implemented to test available samples and select the cost effective, efficient, and reliable product for implementation. An automated test setup for PV panels using LabVIEW and several microcontroller-based embedded systems were designed, tested, and implemented. This PV testing system was fully automated, where the only human intervention required was the instalment of PV panel and set up of required testing conditions. The designed and implemented system was

Drag Forces under Longitudinal Interaction of Two Particle

Direct measurements of drag force on two interacting particles  arranged in the longitudinal direction for particle Reynolds numbers varying from J O to 103 are conducted using a micro-force measurement system. The effect of the interparticle distance and Reynolds number on the drag forces  is examined. An empirical equation is obtained to describe the effect of the interparticle distance (l/d) on the dimensionless drag.
