This study examines the effect of colonialism on Caribbean society during the colonial period. Through normalization, the British colonial power diminished Caribbean identity and planted a new hybrid identity. Discipline institutions and surveillance techniques had a vital role in normalizing Caribbean society. Caribbean authors have adopted this notion of normalization to represent the reality of colonialism and its consequences. George Lamming, one of the Caribbean political activist and influential novelist in his novel In the Castle of My Skin (1953), reflects normalization as theorized by Michael Foucault. Lamming depicts the story of villagers and their life under colonial domination. Through discipline institution, like school, colonial authority implanted in children mind and produce docile bodies. They are raised with the ideology of colonial privilege and their inferiority. A random sample was chosen which consisted of 64 students divided into experimental and control groups, each group consisted of 32 students. The experimental group was taught via the constructivist learning model, and the control group was taught via the traditional method. The experiment was lasted for Eight weeks, each week taught two lessons. The researcher adopted the experimental design with partial control. The two groups were equalized statistically. The researcher used two instruments, the achievement test and the reflective thinking test.

This dissertation studies the application of equivalence theory developed by Mona Baker in translating Persian to Arabic. Among various translation methodologies, Mona Baker’s bottom-up equivalency approach is unique in several ways. Baker’s translation approach is a multistep process. It starts with studying the smallest linguistic unit, “the word”, and then evolves above the level of words leading to the translation of the entire text. Equivalence at the word level, i.e., word for word method, is the core point of Baker’s approach.
