The assessment of pathological changes in cerebral blood flow in hypertensive rats with stress-induced intracranial hemorrhage using Doppler OCT: Particularities of arterial and venous alterations/Die Beurteilung von pathologischen Veränderungen der Hirndurchblutung bei hypertensiven Ratten mit Stress-induzierten intrakraniellen Blutungen mittels Doppler-OCT: Besonderheiten von arteriellen und venösen Veränderungen
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Hemorrhagic insult is a major source of morbidity and mortality in both adults and newborn babies in the developed countries. The mechanisms underlying the non-traumatic rupture of cerebral vessels are not fully clear, but there is strong evidence that stress, which is associated with an increase in arterial blood pressure, plays a crucial role in the development of acute intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), and alterations in cerebral blood flow (CBF) may contribute to the pathogenesis of ICH. The problem is that there are no effective diagnostic methods that allow for a prognosis of risk to be made for the development of ICH. Therefore, quantitative assessment of CBF may significantly advance the understanding of the nature of ICH. The aim of this study was to determine the particularities of alterations in arterial and venous cerebral circulation in hypertensive rats at different stages of stress-related development of ICH using three-dimensional Doppler optical coherence tomography (DOCT).

Experiments were performed in mongrel adult rats. To induce ICH, hypertensive rats underwent stress (effect of severe sound, 120 dB during 2 h). To induce the renal hypertension (two kidneys, one clip) the rats were clipped at the left renal artery with a silver clip. Seven weeks after clipping, the hypertensive rats were used in the experiment. The monitoring of CBF was performed in anesthetized rats with fixed heads using a commercially available swept source OCT system (OCS1300SS; Thorlabs) in the masked period of ICH (4 h after stress) and during ICH (24 h after stress).

It could be shown that in stressed rats, compared with non-stressed animals, the latent stage of stress-induced ICH (4 h after stress-off) is characterized by an increase in diameter of the superior sagittal vein with decrease in speed of the blood flow in the venous network, whereas no changes in the CBF in the arterial tree were found in this period. These facts suggest that the masked period of ICH is accompanied by decreasing venous outflow and the development of venous insufficiency. The incidence of ICH, 24 h after stress, is associated with progression of pathological alterations in cerebral venous circulation. All hypertensive rats with ICH demonstrated a greater increase in the diameter of the superior sagittal vein than stressed rats at the latent stage of ICH (in 2.5-fold,

In summary, using DOCT we have shown that the latent stage of stress-induced ICH is characterized by a decrease in venous outflow. The incidence of ICH is associated with the progression of pathological alterations in cerebral venous circulation that is accompanied by a decrease in blood flow in the arterial tree. The evaluation of cerebral venous insufficiency is an important diagnostic approach for the prognosis of the risk of developing cerebral hypotension and ICH.

Assessment of serum Interleukin-1β and its correlation with periodontal health status during pregnancy
...Show More Authors

Background: Pregnancy is a stressful state of increased inflammatory activity, and pregnancy – associated hormone changes can influence periodontal tissues, these inflammatory activity lead to production of inflammatory mediators. Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokines that is consistently associated with periodontal diseases. This study was designed to determine the periodontal health status and detect the serum level of IL-1β in the healthy pregnant women at first, second and third trimester and compare it with healthy non pregnant women, and determine its correlation with different clinical periodontal parameters. HUMAN LAB RATS IN JAMES DASHNER’S THE MAZE RUNNER SERIES (2009 – 2011): HISTORICAL REFERENCES, PRESENT ALLUSIONS, AND DYSTOPIAN FUTURE
...Show More Authors

Purpose: This study aims to shed the light on allusions to real lab rats in Dashner’s trilogy: The Maze Runner (2009), The Scorch Trails (2010), and The Death Cure (2011). It also aims to trace the historical documents and chronicles essential to reveal the justifications behind the vague political and scientific crimes. Methodology: The researchers have used the literary analytical approach to study and analyze selected prominent aspects from each novel; such as the concept of lab rats and genocide crimes in The Maze Runner; references to weather experiments, the climate change conspiracy, gas chambers, and the Holocaust in The Scorch Trails; and finally, the man-made diseases and biological weapons in The Death Cure. Protective effect of red cabbage and garlic extracts against Fumonisin B1 induced hepatotoxicity in male mice
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Red cabbage and garlic extracts have protective effect against liver damage induced by fumonisin B1 (FB1) in male mice was studied. Randomly sixty mice have been divided in to six groups. Group one are the healthy mice, Group two are mice received oral dose of only FB-1 (100 μg/kg.b.w) once on daily for 1 month, Group three: mice received with red cabbage extract (500 mg/kg.bw) plus FB1, Group four: mice receiving just red cabbage extracts, Group five: mice receiving garlic extract (500mg/kg.bw) plus FB1, group 6: mice received only garlic extract. After finished the experiment, samples of blood were used for biochemical examination. The results indicated that group (2) mice treated
... Show More

Protective Effects of Quercetin on Lipopolysaccharide -Induced Inflammation and Lipid Peroxidation in BALB/c Male Mice
...Show More Authors

In the resent years, there is a robust scientific interest in discovery of new anti-septic and anti-oxidant naturally products with no/or limited side effects. The current study aimed to investigate the protective role of the quercetin on inflammations induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in male mice A number of criteria included i.e. liver and spleen index and IL-6 and IL1-β cytokines level in spleen homogenate were considered. Sixty male mice (8-9 week age) was divided into six groups and treated for 5 days as the following: the first group represented control, the second and third group were injected with 5, 10 mg/kg b.w doses of quercetin respectively. While the fourth and fifth groups were co-treatment with (5, 10 mg/kg b.w.) intraper

MAGNETO HYDRODYNAMIC NATURAL CONVECTION FLOW ON A VERTICAL CYLINDER WITH A PRESENCE OF HEAT GENERATION AND RADIATION
...Show More Authors

The present work investigates the effect of magneto – hydrodynamic (MHD) laminar natural convection flow on a vertical cylinder in presence of heat generation and radiation. The governing equations which used are Continuity, Momentum and Energy equations. These equations are transformed to dimensionless equations using Vorticity-Stream Function method and the resulting nonlinear system
of partial differential equations are then solved numerically using finite difference approximation. A thermal boundary condition of a constant wall temperature is considered. A computer program (Fortran 90) was built to calculate the rate of heat transfer in terms of local Nusselt number, total mean Nusselt number, velocity distribution as well as te
