Television white spaces (TVWSs) refer to the unused part of the spectrum under the very high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) bands. TVWS are frequencies under licenced primary users (PUs) that are not being used and are available for secondary users (SUs). There are several ways of implementing TVWS in communications, one of which is the use of TVWS database (TVWSDB). The primary purpose of TVWSDB is to protect PUs from interference with SUs. There are several geolocation databases available for this purpose. However, it is unclear if those databases have the prediction feature that gives TVWSDB the capability of decreasing the number of inquiries from SUs. With this in mind, the authors present a reinforcement learning-ba
... Show MoreA security system can be defined as a method of providing a form of protection to any type of data. A sequential process must be performed in most of the security systems in order to achieve good protection. Authentication can be defined as a part of such sequential processes, which is utilized in order to verify the user permission to entree and utilize the system. There are several kinds of methods utilized, including knowledge, and biometric features. The electroencephalograph (EEG) signal is one of the most widely signal used in the bioinformatics field. EEG has five major wave patterns, which are Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma. Every wave has five features which are amplitude, wavelength, period, speed and frequency. The linear
... Show MoreA smart home’s safety is a very urgent question due to several causes. This chapter analyzes current directions of smart house system safety technologies in use nowadays. Current studies are dedicated to the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) into smart home systems; critical situations that may arise; and specifications of sensors in the smart home system. The huge number of connected devices and the capacity embedded within these devices to direct demand resources make deliberate attacks on them and/or inadvertent downfall events such as abrupt bad interactions between connected devices, mechanical failure of devices, and unsuccessful communication may lead to IoT-based systems entering unreliable and threatening physical s
... Show MoreThis work is concerned with the vibration attenuation of a smart beam interacting with fluid using proportional-derivative PD control and adaptive approximation compensator AAC. The role of the AAC is to improve the PD performance by compensating for unmodelled dynamics using the concept of function approximation technique FAT. The key idea is to represent the unknown parameters using the weighting coefficient and basis function matrices/vectors. The weighting coefficient vector is updated using Lyapunov theory. This controller is applied to a flexible beam provided with surface bonded piezo-patches while the vibrating beam system is submerged in a fluid. Two main effects are considered: 1) axial stretching of the vibrating beam that leads
... Show MoreAbstract: Aluminum alloys grade 6061-T6 are characterized by their excellent properties and processing characteristics which make them ideal for varieties of industrial applications under cyclic loading, aluminum alloys show less fatigue life than steel alloys of similar strength. In the current study, a nanosecond fiber laser of maximum pulse energy up to 9.9 mJ was used to apply laser shock peening process (LSP) on aluminum thin sheets to introduce residual stresses in order to enhance fatigue life under cyclic loading Box-Behnken design (BBD) based on the design of experiments (DOE) was employed in this study for experimental design data analysis, model building and optimization The effect of working parameters spot size (ω), scannin
... Show MoreOptical losses represent one of the primary obstacles to increasing the efficiency of silicon solar cells. The recommended solution to minimize optical losses is the use of plasmonic metal nanoparticles; however, they act as recombination centers within the solar cell construction, leading to a decrease in performance. The goal of this article is to introduce cobalt/graphene nanoparticles into the solar cell to minimize the optical losses. An ultra-thin film silicon PIN solar cell of dimensions (400 ×400 ×900) nm3 with ring metal contact shape was designed and numerically investigated using COMSOL Multiphysics software version 6.2 by the finite element method (FEM). Core/shell cobalt-graphene (Co/Gr) nanoparticles are periodically int
