The optimum conditions for production of fibrinolytic protease from an edible mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus grown on the solid medium , Sus medium, composed of Sus wastes (produced from extracted medicinal plant Glycyrrhiza glabra) were determined. Addition of 5% of Soya bean seeds meal in Sus medium recorded a maximum fibrinolytic protease activity resulting in 7.7 units / ml. The optimum moisture content of Sus medium supplemented with 5% Soya bean seeds meal was 60% resulting in 7.2 units / ml.Pleurotus ostreatus produced a maximum fibrinolytic protease activity when the spawn rate,pH of medium and incubation temperature were 2,6 and 30°C, respectively. The maximum fibrinolytic protease activity was 7.6 units / ml when incubation period of Pleurotus ostreatus at the end of 3rd week (vegetative or mycelium stage), then lowered to 6.2 and 4.4 units/ml in the end of 4th week (reproduction or fruit bodies stage) and 5th week (after harvesting of fruit bodies), respectively. Although the minimum fibrinolytic protease activity was recorded in the end of 4th and 5th weeks, production of fibrinolytic protease regard to a byproduct after harvesting of fruit bodies.
The development of a new, cheap, efficient, and ecofriendly adsorbents has become an important demand for the treatment of waste water, so nano silica is considered a good choice. A sample of nanosilica (NS) was prepared from sodium silicate as precursor and the nonionic surfactant Tween 20 as a template. A comparative study was carried out to evaluate alkaloid antibacterial activity which was extracted from the root bark Punica granatum L. by liquid membrane techniques (SA) and organic solvent traditional techniques (SB). The screening of the antimicrobial activity was conducted by agar well diffusion method against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabilis at three concentration levels (5, 10 and 15 mg/ml). Show MoreThis study evaluates the efficacy of pullulan, a bacterial polysaccharide extracted from a local Micrococcus luteus isolate, in preserving the oxidative stability of unrefined sunflower oil. Using peroxide value (PV) and thiobarbituric acid value (TBA) as metrics. Five treatments were compared against a traditional antioxidant, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and a control. Results demonstrated that the use of 800 ppm pullulan significantly inhibited oxidative degradation of the unrefined sunflower oil, particularly at 20°C storage. Peroxide values for 800 ppm pullulan (1.91 mEq.kg-1 at 20°C; 2.88 mEq.kg-1 at 50°C) were slightly higher than BHT (1.82 and 1.99 mEq.kg-1) but markedly lower than the control (4.49 and 3.59 mEq.kg-1).
