Background:
ABSTRACT Background: chronic periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis are widely prevalent diseases and are characterized by tissue destruction due to chronic inflammation. Recently, there is growing evidence that the two diseases share many pathological features the aims of the study To determine the periodontal health status in patient have chronic periodontitis with rheumatoid arthritis and compare it with those having chronic periodontitis without Rheumatoid arthritis and determine the serum levels of interleukin -17(IL-17), tumor necrosis factor- alpha (TNF-α ) in both groups and compare with the control group (subject samples neither have periodontitis nor arthritis ) and correlate these immunological markers with the periodontal p

Accordingly we design a study to investigate the association between resistin concentration and acute phase of STEMI in Iraqi patients.
The present study was carried out at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital from December 2011 until June 2012. Serum resistin levels were measured in 50 patients with acute STEMI (mean age: 58.16 ± 11.73 years) at the first 12 hours of admission and 34 normal controls (mean age: 53.98 ± 15.46 years) matched for age, sex and other risk factors.

It typically occurs when there is an imbalance between supply and demand of myocardial oxygen. The most common cause of myocardial ischemia is atherosclerotic disease of an epicardial coronary artery or arteries which is sufficient to cause a regional reduction in myocardial blood flow and inadequate perfusion of the myocardium supplied by the involved coronary artery. Fifty CAD subjects (23 females and 27 males) were enrolled in this study in addition to thirty healthy control subjects (13 female and 17 male). This study aimed to measure the serum levels of interleukin IL- 33, C- reactive prot

It is supposed that elevated sialic acid in diabetes mellitus plays an important role in diabetic retinopathy. This study investigated serum total sialic acid levels related to glycemic control, blood pressure, retinopathy, and serum lipid level in diabetic retinopathy patients.
Patients & Methods: Type 2 diabetic patients aged (56.47±10.68) years were recruited for the study. Fasting venous blood samples were collected from 132 diabetic subjects of whom 79 without retinopathy and 53 were diabetic with retinopathy. All the blood samples were processed for serum total sialic acid (TSA), fasting serum glucose (FSG), HbA
Background: Neural tube defects (NTD) are group of heterogeneous and complex congenital anomalies of the CNS. Commonly included in this group anencephaly, spina bifida and
encephaloceles. Anencephaly is the most severe defect; it is always lethal and results in stillbirth or early neonatal demise, is characterized by absence of the brain and cranium above the base of the skull and orbits
Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the relationship between maternal serum zinc level and anencephaly occurrence in women with second -trimester induced abortion due to anencephalic fetus.
Study design and setting: This study is a case- control study, carried out in Baghdad teaching hospital through
Background: Lipids seem to have a direct influence in women breast cancer (BC) or dyslipidemia may be a consequence of this cancer.
Objective: the aim of this study is to define serum levels of lipid profile in women with breast cancer (BC) and to compare that with fibroadenoma benign breast tumor. Also, to assess the role of serum CA 15-3 in early diagnosis of breast cancer (BC).
Patients and Methods: This case study was carried out at Biochemistry Department, College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, during the period from February 2017 to November 2017. It included 38 Iraqi women diagnosed with primary breast cancer (BC, Group-I) and 25 women with Fibroadenom
Background: the aim of this study was to assess the value of serum thyroid–stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in predicting malignancy in patients with nodular thyroid disease (NTD). Objective: The aim was to examine the relationship between preoperative TSH and differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC).
Patients and Method: all patients with NTD who were admitted in the first surgical unit of Baghdad teaching hospital and assessed for preoperative TSH level before subjecting them for thyroidectomy from first of April 2014 to 31 of January 2016, were included in the study. A preoperative database sheets including Age, gender, nodule size, and pathology were evaluated. Logistic regression analysis was used t
Many pathophysiological processes can affect the pharmacokinetic properties of drugs in people with diabetes. The present study was deigned to evaluate the influence of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the pharmacokinetic parameters of metronidazole administered as single oral dose. Twelve healthy volunteers and twelve diabetic patients were enrolled in the present study. On day 1, a single oral dose of metronidazole 500 mg was administered orally to all participants at 9:00 am after a 10-hour fasting. Over the following 48 hours, blood samples were taken at frequent intervals and serum metronidazole concentrations were measured by a high-performance liquid chromatography method for assessment of pharmacokinetics of metronid
