Surficial sediment samples were collected from four stations at Shatt Al-Hilla from Western Zoer area to Almaimirh in Babylon province for the period from August 2016 to April 2017.The level of contamination in the sediments of Shatt Al-Hilla, by Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu), Nickle (Ni), Manganese (Mn), Zinc (Zn), Arsenic (As), and Cobalt (Co) has been evaluated using the index of Geo-accumulation (I-Geo), Contamination factor (CF), pollution load index (PLI) and Potential ecological risk index (Eire). Zinc nanoparticles were created using alcoholic extract. We used FTIR, UV-Vis, SEM, EDX, and TEM to characterize zinc nanoparticles. A study was performed to evaluate heavy metals removal from sewage sludge using lime. The processes of stabilization using alkaline chemicals operating on a simple principle of raising pH to 12 or higher, with sufficient mixing and suitable contact time to ensure that immobilization can reduce heavy metals. A 0.157 m3 tank was designed to treat Al-Rustemeyia wastewater treatment plant sludge. Characteristics of raw sludge were examined through two parameters: pH and heavy metal analysis.
