Extraction, Purification and Characterization of Peroxidase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Utility as Antioxidant and Anticancer
...Show More Authors

Peroxidase is a class of oxidation-reduction reaction enzyme that is useful for accelerating many oxidative reactions that protect cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. Peroxidase is found in many common sources like plants, animals and microbes and have extensive uses in numerous industries such as industrial, medical and food processing. In this study, P. aeruginosa was harvested to utilize and study its peroxidases. P. aeruginosa was isolated from a burn patient, and the isolate was verified as P. aeruginosa using staining techniques, biochemical assay, morphological, and a sensitivity test. The gram stain and biochemical test result show rod pink gram-negative bacteria, and ensure that the isolate was that of P. aeruginosa. Optimization for bacterial growth were done by used more than pH (5,7,9) and temperatures (32,35,37°C), and it was found that the best growth conditions were at pH 5.5, producing (4.5x108cells), and a temperature of 37°C, with (5.25x108cells) being produced. Intracellular enzymes were extracted by ultra-sonication that used frequencies of ultrasound 30 kHz for 20 min in 4 °C, and was centrifuged at 13000×g for 5min. The supernatant was then re-used as a crude enzymatic extract and the cell pellet was discarded. Purification of peroxidase was accomplished by using salt precipitation, dialysis, gel filtrations and ion exchange chromatographic techniques. The result shows that gel filtration has optimal specific activity and purification fold at (61 U/ml), purification fold 6 times and then the improvement enzyme was applied as H2O2 scavenging activity antioxidant by used three concentration of enzyme (10,40,60 µg/ml), and show higher scavenging activity at 60 µg/ml, which reached to 45% scavenging activity. The enzyme was also used as anticancer agent, which was verified by using three concentration of enzyme (10,15,20 µg/ml) which show a significant kill for Mcf-7cells at (15µg/ml), with cytotoxicity activity reaching (45%).

Comparative study of logistic regression and artificial neural networks on predicting breast cancer cytology
...Show More Authors

Currently, breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and a main reason of women death worldwide particularly in developing countries such as Iraq. our work aims to predict the type of tumor whether benign or malignant through models that were built using logistic regression and neural networks and we hope it will help doctors in detecting the type of breast tumor. Four models were set using binary logistic regression and two different types of artificial neural networks namely multilayer perceptron MLP and radial basis function RBF. Evaluation of validated and trained models was done using several performance metrics like accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and AUC (area under receiver ope

Background: overweight and obesity are the fifth leadingrisk for global deaths. At least 2.8 million adults die eachyear as a result of being overweight or obese. Numerousstudies show that weight loss, even if only 5-10%,significantly improves dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetesmellitus, risk for osteoarthritis and its symptoms and risk forselected cancers. Objectives: is to evaluate the effect of diet and exerciseprogram on anthropometric and biochemical status of adultobese patients. Methods: descriptive study. 124 adult obese patientsattending Al Kindy obesity research and therapy unit duringDecember 2012 were included. Measurement of Wt, heightHt and WC performed and BMI was calculated. Laboratorytest analysis, on the fasting state, w

Structural and Optical Properties of ZnO Nanostructures Synthesized by Hydrothermal Method at Different Conditions
...Show More Authors

ZnO nanostructures were synthesized by hydrothermal method at different temperatures and growth times. The effect of increasing the temperature on structural and optical properties of ZnO were analyzed and discussed. The prepared ZnO nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–Vis. absorption spectroscopy (UV–Vis.), Photoluminescence (PL), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In this work, hexagonal crystal structure prepared ZnO nanostructures was observed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the average crystallite size equal 14.7 and 23.8 nm for samples synthesized at growth time 7 and 8 hours respectively. A nanotubes-shaped surface morphology was found using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The optic

Concentrations, Sources and Distribution of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAHs) Compounds in Basrah soils, Iraq
...Show More Authors

Anthropogenic activities cause soil pollution with different serious pollutants, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) compounds. This study assessed the contamination of PAHs in soil samples collected from 30 sites divided into eight groups (residential areas, oil areas, agricultural areas, roads, petrol stations, power plants, public parks and electrical generators) in Basrah city-Iraq during 2019-2020. The soil characteristics including (moisture, pH, EC and TOC) were measured. Results showed the following ranges (soil moisture (0.03-0.18%),pH (6.90-8.16), EC (2.48-104.80) mS/cm and TOC (9.90-20.50%)). Gas Chromatography (GC) was used to measure PAHs in extracted soil samples. The total PAH range (499.96 - 5864.86) ng/g dr

How are the Performance of Small Businesses Influenced by HRM Practices and Governmental Support?
...Show More Authors

Human resources have been regarded as the most important asset for any organization because of its essential part in achieving the sustainable competitive advantage and survival. Managing human resources is very challenging and requires an effective bundle of practices that contribute to attaining the organizational goals. This study tries to confirm the importance of HRM practices in small businesses which came to play a vital role in the economies of the world, through clarifying the influence of HRM practices on the organizational performance, using a mediating variable (employees’ outcomes). Also the study attempts to highlight the key role of governmental support from view point of small businesses, through verifying the significant

Improving the Moisture Damage Resistance of HMA by Using Ceramic Fiber and Hydrated Lime
...Show More Authors

The Moisture damage is considered as one of the main challenge for the experts in the field of asphalt pavement design. The aims of the present study is to modify moisture resistance of the asphalt concrete by utilizing ceramic fibers as a type of reinforcement incorporated with hydrated lime. For this purpose, a penetration grade of the asphalt cement (40-50) was utilized as a binder with an aggregate of the maximum nominal size of 12.5mm and mineral filler limestone dust. A series of specimens has been fabricated by utilizing 0.50, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 percentages of ceramic fibers. For each of these contents, another subsequent group of specimens with hydrated lime with 0.0, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 percentages were moulded. For the additi

Abstract Introduction: Aphthous stomatitis is a recurring oral ulceration condition that affects a significant proportion of the population. While several factors have been proposed to contribute to its occurrence, the link between caffeine consumption, anxiety levels, and the development of aphthous stomatitis remains unknown. This survey-based study aimed to understand the association between coffee, anxiety, and the development of aphthous stomatitis in this specific demographic, which can provide useful insights for medical management as well as preventive strategies. Material and methods: A structured online questionnaire was distributed via various social media platforms targeting a sample of the Armenian population. The quest
